You Have Until Sept. 5th To Buy A Rift + Touch For $399

This Summer Oculus sent shockwaves through the tech and gaming community when they slashed the price of the Rift and Oculus Touch bundle all the way down to a $399 — the same price of just the standalone PSVR headset at the time. Since then HTC has dropped the price of the Vive down to $599, granting a $200 price cut. The big sale is finally coming to an end as the Oculus Rift and Touch bundle will raise to a standard price of $499 starting at 12:00AM PT on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017. That means you have until 11:59PM PT on Monday, September 4th, 2017, to take advantage of the $399 price.

The Summer of Rifts sale isn’t ending without one last big hurrah though. Throughout this weekend there’s going to be one last big flash sale for users to take advantage of and it includes some of the best deals we’ve seen yet:

Now is a great time to top up your game library on Oculus Home if you haven’t in a while and get some of the best games at good discounts or finally get around to buying that Oculus Rift with Touch you’ve been putting off. If you do, we highly recommend also grabbing a third sensor for 360-degree tracking.

Let us know what you think down in the comments below!

Save 55% on ‘Batman: Arkham VR’ Through August 22nd

Batman: Arkham VR (2016) is both the first VR Batman game, and the first VR title from developer Rocksteady Studios’—you wouldn’t know it though, given the game’s excellent visuals and well crafted VR design. If you haven’t had a chance to become the Batman just yet, you can pick up the game at a big discount through August 22nd.

Though the game is also on sale at Steam, you’ll find the best deal on Batman: Arkham VR right now from Bundle Stars, a website which sells officially licensed Steam keys that come from the game’s publisher. Through August 22nd, Batman: Arkham VR is on sale for 50% off the original price, and you can save an additional 5% by using the code ‘SUMMER10’ at checkout.

The Steam version of the game supports both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift; the game is also available on the Oculus store and the PlayStation store, though not currently on sale.

Batman: Arkham VR launched originally in late 2016 as a PSVR exclusive. When it launched on PC in April of this year, the game’s already impressive visuals were able to shine even brighter on more powerful PC hardware.

Though the game bears the Arkham name, it isn’t a stealthy beat-em-up like the other games of the series, instead focusing more on Batman’s detective work, light puzzle solving, and exploring the lore of the Arkham universe. Rocksteady did a good job of creating interesting ways to interact with the world of Batman:

In our review of the game on PSVR, we gave Batman: Arkham VR an 8 out of 10:

Batman: Arkham VR plays like a long demo with highly detailed and immersive environments and fun (if one-dimensional) gameplay. For Rocksteady’s first attempt at a VR game, Arkham VR is a solid foundation for what we hope will be future episodic installments. What the game lacks in mobility and action it makes up for in storytelling and satisfying object interaction. Overall Arkham VR is a taste of the potential virtual reality can offer the series, but leaves us wanting more varied gameplay.

As you can see, one of our critiques at the time was the game’s length, but with the sale, the price:value ratio appears much more favorable.

Save 50% on ‘Battlezone’ During Weekend Steam Sale – Now Including HOTAS Support

Looking to pick up one of Steam’s most polished VR titles? Battlezone (2016) is on sale for 50% of the usual asking price through August 7th.

Battlezone, inspired by the original 1980 game of the same name, initially launched on PSVR back in 2016 and later came to PC for both the Vive and Rift. The seated tank combat game puts you in the cockpit of a futuristic hover tank and has you battle your way through an impressively stylized and colorful world full of varied enemies. The game holds a commendable 81% positive rating on Steam, 4.5 out of 5 stars on the PlayStation Store, and 4 out of 5 stars on the Oculus store.

This weekend Battlezone is on sale for 50% off on Steam, making the price $20. The sale is only available through Steam (a version of the game which supports both the Vive and the Rift).

Note that Battlezone is a seated game and you’ll need a gamepad to play it. For many Vive players, that will mean probably putting a chair in the center of your room-scale play space. Alternatively, if you happen to own a flight stick setup (also known as HOTAS), Battlezone added support in version 1.07 of the game in July, for a more authentic cockpit experience.

You Can Buy an Oculus Rift + Touch Bundle in Germany for €450

Germany-based customers looking to snap up a deal on Oculus Rift and Touch, the VR headset’s motion controller, are seeing one of the biggest price cuts thanks to German electronics retailer MediaMarkt. Normally costing €708 for both Rift and Touch, the special sale bundle has slashed prices to a total of €453.99 including VAT and shipping to anywhere in Germany.

The sale is only available on the company’s German site, and doesn’t appear on other international branches MediaMarkt including Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, or Italy-based MediaWorld.

If you’re in Germany however but for some reason don’t have a permanent address, you can also pay online and pick up the bundle in-store providing both items are currently in stock. It’s uncertain at this time how long the sale will last.

Although Oculus has done some serious legwork to get Oculus-Ready computers down to as low as $650, price is still a big barrier of entry for many people that would otherwise want to jump right into VR. When you factor in the cost of a VR-capable computer with that of the Rift headset and Touch, you could be seeing a price tag well over €1,000, meaning any savings in cost is good news.

US-based Rift+Touch bundles can still be had for as low as $600 on Amazon.com and Best Buy.

HTC Expands Vive Financing Program – Get a Headset and VR PC Interest Free

Announced today via the official Vive blog, HTC now has three VR bundles available with 6, 12, and 24-month financing plans in an effort to help customers afford the high upfront cost of the system and the required hardware. Bundles now include the option of a graphics card, laptop, or desktop PC to compliment the Vive system. This adds to the existing financing options for the Vive itself, which can bring the cost down to $40 per month for the $800 hardware.

Spreading the cost of expensive VR hardware over several months could make a more manageable entry point for some customers, particularly if they are also in need of additional horsepower to meet the required PC specifications. Following the financing options introduced for Vive hardware in February, allowing regular payments across 6 to 24 months, comes three new options that include ‘VR Ready’ PC hardware. The 6 and 12 month payment plans are offered interest free via PayPal financing options, while the 24 month option will add an 8% APR to the total cost.

VR GPU Bundle

Firstly, the Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card, one of the most-recommended choices for a VR PC upgrade, can be purchased with a Vive system for $1,000 for a limited time (until April 24th), or $49 per month for 24 months. Vive says this is a $200 discount compared to buying them separately

VR Laptop Bundle

For those looking for a brand new VR-capable PC, the MSI GS73VR laptop is the second hardware bundle with a Vive system for $125 per month. This desktop-replacement laptop has a clear gaming and performance focus, with a large 17.3” display favouring low latency over resolution, running at 1080p and 120Hz. Its GTX 1060 GPU and i7 CPU means it comfortably meets the ‘VR Ready’ minimum specifications, making it an ideal ‘portable Vive machine’.

VR Desktop Bundle

The final Vive bundle is a Cyberpower GXi970 desktop PC for ‘less than $99 a month’. Its key specifications of a modern Kaby Lake i5-7600 CPU and GTX 1070 GPU mean that it is capable of high performance in VR, albeit not at the very top end.

As noted in the blog, every Vive purchase receives bundled VR titles—currently Richie’s Plank Experience and Everest VR—and one-month free to the Viveport Subscription service.
