Competition: Win A Copy Of Fantasy/Horror Adventure Gates Of Nowhere

Dungeons have a well deserved bad rap. There’s never a good dungeon is there? It’s always full of monsters and demons and some kind of all-encompassing evil that’s plotting to take over the world, or smite the village, or make off with all your gold, your womenfolk or your children. (Sometimes all three.) They’re always dark. They’re always damp. They’re always full of moss, spiders and skeletons. Would it kill people to dispense with the floor littered with bones and install a nice plush carpet for once?

Still, if they did I suspect it wouldn’t be quite as good a location to set videogames.

Gates of Nowhere Screen-Update-10-1

Such a dungeon awaits you in Gates Of Nowhere, a fantasy virtual reality (VR) videogame for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift currently in Early Access on Steam. Developers SYMMETRICAL have crafted a title in which you busy yourself fighting hordes of horrendous creatures, looking for keys to gain access to the following area and healing yourself up with any potions you can craft from the loot scattered around the place. Not to mention the odd puzzle or two to solve.

Incidentally, you can read our preview of Gates of Nowhere right here.

We’ve teamed up with Italian indie developer SYMMETRICAL to give you the chance to win a code for the title on Steam.  We’ve got six codes to give away, all you need to do to enter is use the Gleam widget below and interact with our social media accounts in some way. You’ll receive a draw entry for being a follower of us on Twitter, one (or another one if you do this as well) for being a subscriber of our channel on YouTube.  You can gain a third entry if you visit our Facebook page – and it’d be pretty neat if you liked it while you were there – and the same goes for our Instagram account too.

The competition is open for approximately a week. It starts today, April 20th, 2018, and will end at midnight UK time, the beginning of April 27th. Winners will be drawn and contacted shortly after that period. Best of luck to all!

Competition: Win A Copy Of Magical VR Puzzler Conjuror’s Eye

If life has taught us anything it’s that when it comes down to it there are things that bind all of us. Common ground that we share and that allows us to sympathise with others, and this isn’t necessarily hobbies, interests, or even what your favourite song is. It can be your faults as well.

Conjurors Eye screenshot3In the Escality virtual reality (VR) videogame Conjuror’s Eye you take on the guise of wizard who, while studying a shrinking spell receives a shiny new package from an old friend. Unfortunately for the wizard in question, they do something that we all do upon receiving it: They don’t read the instructions properly. It turns out there was a warning on the artefact that they received and they end up sucked inside the magical do-hickey. Did I mention the space inside this enchanted item it is constantly shrinking? Because it is.

Naturally, the morning could’ve gone somewhat better for the wizard. So it’s up to you to get them out. You do that by learning the scaling spell the wizard had been investigating and utilizing it to solve puzzles. Many puzzles. There may also be puzzles inside of puzzles – after all sometimes the only way back is to go forwards…

We’ve teamed up with Escality to give you the chance to win a code for the title on Steam, which has support for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and also Windows Mixed Reality headsets.  We’ve got three codes to give away, all you need to do to enter is use the Gleam widget below and interact with our social media accounts in some way. Competition: Celebrate The PlayStation VR Launch of Operation Warcade By Winning It

If you’re familiar with the usual weekly ‘run’ of content on VRFocus you might be a little surprised to find a competition here on a Wednesday. Over the last couple of months, we’ve been pretty regular in having a prize draw giveaway for codes every Friday. Giving you the chance to acquire virtual reality (VR) videogame codes for everything from PlayStation VR to Gear VR titles. In fact, at the time of writing we still have a couple of days left on our last one, for a couple of EU PSVR codes for Time Carnage.

Operation Warcade screenshotBut I’ve got good news, there’s still going to be a Friday competition. This week we’ve got an extra one, courtesy of the good folks at Ivanovich Games.  They are the developers behind Operation Warcade VR, a title that takes the spirit of a classic arcade favourite and gives it a VR twist.

Operation Warcade VR looks to invoke memories of classic wartime shooters, the Operation Wolf‘s of the world. Where you stood in front of an arcade cabinet with nothing but a swivel-mounted representation of an uzi with an extra button to pop a grenade off every now and then to lay waste to an enemy force. You’re a one-man-army. Nothing can stop you. Operation Warcade VR has six levels full of bullets, explosions and arcade nostalgia. Alternatively you can take on the trials of Immersive Mode, which contains over 100 missions. The team even added a Half-Life 2-style gravity gun to proceedings, allowing you to do things like rip military drones out of the sky.

“Operation Warcade is my childhood dream.” CEO and Founder of Ivanovich Games, Ivan Cascales explained in an announcement last month. “A declaration of love to the golden age of the arcades. An injection of nostalgia that, thanks to VR, we can relive in unparalleled conditions from 30 years ago.”

Operation Warcade VR

To celebrate the title’s anticipated launch onto the PlayStation VR we’ve teamed up with Ivanovich Games to give you the chance to win four codes for the title. The codes are for the European region – so you’ll need a EU PlayStation account in order to claim and play them.  All you need to do to enter is use the Gleam widget below and interact with our social media accounts in some way. You’ll receive a draw entry for being a follower of us on Twitter, one (or another one) for being a subscriber to us on YouTube, or by visiting our Facebook page. Regular readers will know we’ve recently added our Instagram account to the mix and if you visit that you’ll gain not one but two entries for the draw. Of course, if you then follow the account while you’re there, that’d be pretty swell from our point of view.

The competition is open for around a week. Starting today, April 11th, 2018, and will end at midnight UK time, the beginning of April 18th. Winners will be drawn and contacted after that period. Best of luck to all!

Competition: Win An EU Code For PlayStation VR’s Time Carnage

Time travel isn’t exactly devoid of risk. You travel from century to century, tipping your hat to Abraham Lincoln here and doffing your cap to William Shakespeare there. It’s all fun and games until someone loses a parent and finds they don’t exist anymore. Retconning history rarely seems to go well, and usually results in the future being messed up. Wales Interactive’s Time Carnage pits you with a simple philosophy: if you’re going to wander through history, for goodness sake bring a gun.

Time CarnageTime Carnage takes players through numerous time periods, having you fight against an array of different enemies. It’s a fast-paced action virtual reality (VR) videogame, and players will be able to select from a variety of weapons per time period in order to defend yourself in such a manner that best suits you. Players can dynamically swap out active guns in the middle of the action; but choosing the right load-out for each area is key as you traverse a post-apocalyptic wasteland, lush prehistoric jungle, futuristic city or icy tundra and fight against enemies such as dinosaurs, monsters, robots and zombies.

We’ve teamed up with Wales Interactive to give you the opportunity to win a code for the title on PlayStation VR.  We’ve got two to give away for the European region – so you’ll need a EU PlayStation account in order to claim and play them.  All you need to do to enter is use the Gleam widget below and interact with our social media accounts in some way. You’ll receive a draw entry for being a follower of us on Twitter, one (or another one) for being a subscriber to us on YouTube, or by visiting our Facebook page. We’ve now added our Instagram account to the mix and for a while if you visit it you’ll gain not one but two entries for the draw. And if you then follow the account while you’re there, that’d be pretty awesome of you.

Time CarnageThe competition is open for approximately a week. Starting today, April 7th, 2018, and will end at midnight UK time, the beginning of April 15th. Winners will be drawn and contacted after that period. Best of luck to all!

Competition: Win A Copy Of Satirical Videogame The American Dream

America’s ongoing battle with itself over gun control pits a constitutional ammendment over the changing views of the populous, history and tradition over modern values and, in any ways, young vs old.  As with all topics that are serious they become the subject of dark humor or satire, being lampooned in some form as comedians, writers, satirists, point out just how silly some things are in the first place.

The American Dream screenshotThus in the case of the sterotypical American love of firearms comes  videogame for PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift – The American Dream. Which presents the player with the question of, if you like guns so much, why don’t you just use guns for everything? Want to cook a burger? Better have a gun for that. Need to open a beer? Hope your aim is good. What about the bonding experience of throwing a football around the yard with your Dad? Well son, I think you mean shooting a football around. Players travel through a vast complex constructed by a group of respected gun manufacturers aiming to show the world the virtues of guns for the average American patriot.

“There’s so much to like about The American Dream that it feels like nagging when pointing out its faults.” Said VRFocus Senior Writer Peter Graham in his review of the title, which awarded The American Dream 4 out of 5.

We’ve got three codes for the PlayStation VR version on The American Dream up for grabs.  These codes are claimable from the European PlayStation Store – so you’ll need a corresponding EU PlayStation account in order to claim and play it. To enter the draw usual practices apply, in that all you need do is to have some form of interaction with our social media accounts – which many of you do anyway. You’ll receive a draw entry for every one of the following actions below: Be a follower of us on Twitter, subscribe to us on YouTube, or visit our Facebook and Google+ pages.

The competition is open until the end of next week. Starting today, March 24th, 2018, and will end at midnight UK time, the beginning of March 30th. Winners will be drawn and contacted after that period. Best of luck!

Competition: Win A Spot Of Magic With The Wizards

Everyone likes a bit of magic. Conjuring up that which is not and then, presumably throwing at an enemy and turning them into some sort of toad, or a pile of ash, or both. Thankfully virtual reality (VR) has allowed spellcasting to almost get its own mini videogame genre. There’s a number of titles on the market where you get your magical ways on, and one of the very best happens to be The Wizards.

The WizardsIn the title, by independent developers Carbon Studio – who also created sci-f exploration experience ALICE VR – puts players into the shoes of a young sorcerer tasked with defending the realm from legions of rampaging monsters. A single-player title, The Wizards allows a player to cast all sorts of elemental spells, from lightning bolts to fireballs, alongside defensive spells like a shield, to attack and protect themselves from orcs and goblins.

VRFocus tried The Wizards out earlier this month, describing it in our review as “Beautiful to look at, The Wizards biggest draw is its spell casting gameplay. Rather than switching between spells in a menu the videogame employs gesture-based spell-casting in a similar way to The Unspoken, where you need to remember particular hand movements to be able to do anything. This mechanic works extremely well for magic-based experiences, grounding you in the world and the character, which Carbon Studio easily pulled off.”

We’ve teamed up with Carbon Studio to offer you a chance to pick up the title for free. We’ve got six Steam codes up for grabs – all you need to do is interact with our social media accounts – which many of you likely already follow. You’ll receive a draw entry for every one of the following actions below: Be a follower of us on Twitter, subscribe to us on YouTube, or visit our Facebook and Google+ pages.

The competition is open until the end of next week. Starting today, 16th March 2018, and will end at midnight UK time, the beginning of March 24th. Winners will be drawn and contacted after that period. The best of luck to all!

Competition: Win A Copy Of The Way of Kings: Escape The Shattered Plains

While we are not averse to a documentary or an education themed piece here at VRFocus we do like to get immersed in a bit of fantasy. There’s still nothing quite like getting your nose stuck in a good book – unless said book is then adapted also a virtual reality (VR) videogame. Then you’re getting the best of both worlds, so to speak. And whilst it isn’t exactly common at the moment, when something comes along that meets that mix of criteria, well, you’ve got our attention.

Such is the case with The Way of Kings: Escape The Shattered Plains, the first visual adaptation of Brandon Sanderson’s best-selling fantasy series The Stormlight Archive.  We’ve teamed up with developers Arcturus and partners DMG Entertainment to bring you a new competition to see the weekend in. The pair have kindly given us five Steam codes for the videogame to give away which we’ll be doing so via our usual method that you’re likely familiar with at this point.

“In Escape the Shattered Plains, brave participants take on the role of Kaladin, a young man who is coming to terms with his magical powers, and enter the realm of Roshar, a mythical land where storms of incredible power sweep through the perilous and rocky terrain.” Explains the developers, “Guided by Syl, an enchanting, fairy-like creature, you will encounter an unrelenting tempest on the Shattered Plains, learn to harness the magical power of stormlight, and face-off with mystical beasts and sinister Parshendi warriors.”

We’ve got five Steam codes for The Way of Kings: Escape The Shattered Plains up for grabs.  For this competition the usual applies and all you need do to enter the draw is to have some form of interaction with our social media account – which many of you do anyway. You’ll receive a draw entry for every one of the following actions below: Be a follower of us on Twitter, subscribe to us on YouTube, or visit our Facebook and Google+ pages.

The competition is open until the end of next week. Starting today, 9th March 2018, and will end at midnight UK time, the beginning of March 17th. Winners will be drawn and contacted after that period. The best of luck to all!

Competition: Win A Copy Of Drone Hunter VR Evolved For Gear VR

After a number of seasonal giveaways on VRFocus at the end of December, we’ve had a little break from competitions for a while. Now that we’re in February however, and indeed rapidly coming to the close of it. So, we thought that it was high time that we had another. As such we’ve a new prize draw for you and we’ve teamed up with the folks from VR VISO to give you the chance to be a hero. A hero of space!

In Drone Hunter VR Evolved, which started life on the HTC Vive back at the end of December 2016. The title is not just a port of the original, however, but also contains lots of new content for you to get yor teeth into.

The story is that NASA has detected an alien fleet approaching Earth – which hardly bodes well. You, the player, are set with task of taking part in a trial exercise to find the individual with the right stuff enough to man a top-secret remote-controlled robot that the USA created during the Cold War. Made using alien technology recovered from Roswell, New Mexico, the DH125 is the only weapon capable of defending the Earth against the hostile invaders.  It’s up to you to prove that you are the best so you can defend your home from the alien menace.

It’s not all super serious though, there’s a lighter side to the game as well. Sebastian Kropiwnicki, the designer of Drone Hunter saying at the initial reveal of Evolved that the team went “deep pop culture research and I think some of his (Drone Hunter’s) lines will make you laugh or at least smile.”

Competition: Win A Copy Of GexagonVR’s PC Puzzler Nevrosa: Escape

The Christmas period was quite good for giveaways on VRFocus, we had a couple of competitions you could enter for both PC and PlayStation 4. But such things are in the past and those who won have been given their codes. It’s time to move on to bigger and better things. New year, new competitions. And if we’re going to begin let’s start with a title we reviewed very recently.

The idea of the escape room is simple: You’re locked in a single room, there is an obvious way to get out but there seems to be very little you can do to accomplish it. Your only way out is to follow the breadcrumbs. Performing various tasks in order to solve various little mysteries that will take you one step closer to freedom. The door takes a key? Okay, well, where’s the key? Is it in one of these cupboards? No, but there’s some marks scratched into the cupboard – and there’s a keyboard with a bloody fingerprint on W. One answer leads to the next puzzle, and so on and so forth, etc, etc.

More and more virtual reality (VR) videogames are looking to the idea and the mechanics of the escape room – it’s a topic a couple of our guest writers have even mentioned in articles coming soon to VRFocus . In Nevrosa: Escape, GexagonVR have woven a number of challenging puzzles into their title. A title that is heavy on details and atmosphere as we mentioned in our recent review:

“Make no mistake however that just because Nevrosa: Escape is a puzzler at heart that it can’t get the blood flow pumping with some atmospheric horror to add to the experience.” Explained regular reviewer Peter Graham, on his way to awarding it four stars.  “Finding yourself in an old manor somewhere in Northern Europe, you’re there because of your characters grandfather who disappear several years previously. Hidden away in a dark mysterious laboratory you begin to unearth what the old man was researching and needless to say it isn’t pretty.”

We’ve got five codes for Nevrosa: Escape up for grabs, courtesy of the generous folks at GexagonVR. And, as usual, all you have to do to be entered into the draw is interact with our social media accounts. You get an entry for every one of the following actions below: Be a follower of us on Twitter, subscribe to us on YouTube, or visit our Facebook and Google+ pages. A lot of you probably do that most every day anyway, so why not get an entry into a competition for it.

The competition is open for a week starting today, 5th January 2018, and will end shortly at midnight UK, the beginning of January 13th. Winners will be drawn and contacted after that period. The best of luck to all!

Competition: Win A Copy Of The First Class VR With VRFocus

The old saying goes that it is better to give than to receive. Well if that’s true good news for us at VRFocus I guess, as we’ve got a giveaway for you to get invovled in that’ll be taking place over the Christmas period.

Have you ever wanted to fly? Of course there was a time when humans could not and did not fly. Such an idea was preposterous. If humans were meant to fly we’d’ve been born with wings – which is unsurprisingly where we as a species started looking when we decided to use our intellect and ingenuity to join the birds in the sky. The journey humanity subsequently made to take flight, cross oceans and even touch the stars is quite the fascinating tale. With triumphs beyond measure and disasters of the most terrible. Both joy and tragedy coming in equal measure but never stopping that drive to go higher.

As we explained in our preview of The First Class VR, earlier this year,The First Class VR mixes interactive elements with narration and bold imagery to tell the tale of human flight, taking those first steps in balloons, through powered flight and then onto space exploration. And it’s in space where the experience begins, looking down on planet earth before activating a console that starts things off.”

To celebrate the launch of the title, as well as the coming of the holiday period we’ve got three codes for The First Class VR to give away, courtesy of publishers Zodiac Interactive.

What do you have to do to enter? Well, you get a vote for every one of the following actions below: Be a follower of us on Twitter or by visiting our Facebook and Google+ pages –  I mean, you should probably like/follow us whilst you’re there to stay up to date on everything VR and AR related, right?

The competition is a relatively short one. It’s open now, Christmas Eve 2017 until the end of Boxing Day, that’s the end of the day UK time on Tuesday December 26th 2017. Please note that owing to the holiday season winners will be drawn in 2018 following the New Year celebrations. Best of luck to all.
