Co-op Shooter Gambit! Resurfaces, Coming to PC VR & Quest 2 This Spring
18 months ago XREAL Games (Zero Caliber) teased a new virtual reality (VR) title it was working on, a co-op shooter called Gambit! The premise sounded good but then it all went quiet. Until today that is, with a new Steam page appearing, screenshots, gameplay details, launch window and supported headsets.
Set to offer both single-player and multiplayer modes, Gambit! is described as a “buddy adventure” where you and three mates work together to unleash some carnage across a 20+ hour campaign (9 levels over 3 chapters). There’s no gameplay footage just yet but the screenshots highlight an abundance of enemies, an assortment of weapons and some awesome looking visuals.
Players will have the option to select from four different characters, each with their own unique special weapon and style. We’ll have access to chainsaws, pistols, SMGs, and more, all of which can be customised with attachments, skins, and charms.
Gambit! might be built around cooperative gameplay but it won’t purely rely on it. There will be competitive leaderboards, tournament ladders and a PvP mode to keep you busy. And when you’re not fighting enemies or trying to beat a boss, there are mini-games to play, hidden areas to find, and graffiti boards with adjustable spray cans to get creative with.
Gambit! has got some serious competition in the co-op arena with Vertigo Games’ After the Fall released just before Christmas. It did very well at launch, managing to achieve $1.4 million in revenue during its first 24 hours. Also due for release in 2022 are SIN and Green Hell VR sporting co-op features.
Being developed by a subsidiary team within XREAL Games, Gambit! is currently slated for a Q2 2022 release – May at the moment – for PC VR and Meta Quest 2 headsets. It’ll also support cross-play. As for Zero Caliber, the studio will still support the videogame through 2022 with further updates to come. As gmw3 learns more about Gambit! we’ll keep you updated.

Co-Op Shooter After The Fall Releases This Summer With PC VR And PSVR Crossplay
Today Vertigo Games revealed its upcoming co-op survival looter shooter, After the Fall, is coming to PC VR and PSVR this summer with crossplay.
We first learned about After the Fall nearly two years ago when we got the chance to go hands-on at E3 2019. Back then, we described it as a “familiar FPS” but noted the potential for it to serve as an addictive hub for co-op shooter fun. Even nearly five years later, Arizona Sunshine is still one of the best co-op games out there with it’s slow-paced zombie-slaying tension. After the Fall looks to crank that all the way up.
When we tried it back at E3 the enemies moved much faster than the stumbling zombies of Arizona Sunshine and there was even a big boss fight that erupted in multi-colored loot drops once defeated.
In today’s PS Blog post, we got some new details on the upcoming game. You may recall the premise is a new twist on the post apocalypse in that, rather than being ravaged by bombs and transformed into a gray-brown wasteland, everything is frozen over this time.
Vertigo debuted a new cinematic trailer today (embedded above) inside the blog post with the promise of an “all-new gameplay trailer” coming in the next few weeks. It sounds like there will be a base camp hub area where you can prep for missions, meet up with friends, or take AI companions out with you. Or, you can just roll solo.
On PSVR After the Fall will fully support the PS Aim Controller, or it can be played with two PS Move controllers. It doesn’t sound like DualShock 4 by itself will be an option.
Check out the official website and Twitter account for more details. After the Fall is slated for a release on PC VR and PSVR this summer with crossplay.
Phasmophobia Is A New Cooperative Ghost Hunting Horror Game With Full VR Support
Do you believe in ghosts? If not, you will soon. Phasmophobia is a new four-player cooperative online ghost hunting psychological horror game with full VR support including crossplay with non-VR players on Steam Early Access.
Phasmophobia: Ghost Hunting VR Survival Horror
If you’ve ever watched Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures, one of my wife’s all-time favorite TV shows, then you’ll be familiar with the concept in Phasmophobia. Essentially you work on a team of paranormal investigators that are tasked with investigating haunted locations to capture evidence of ghost activity. You’ll use expected tools like spirit boxes, ouija boards, cameras, a crucifix, and more to provoke activity and try to escape with your life.
Phasmophobia, if it wasn’t clear, is the technical term for “fear of ghosts” which is fitting. Through your investigation the mic is open with proximity voice chat and you’ll also use your voice to communicate with the ghost itself. All of the ghosts are of course tied to previously living people so if you speak their name it will anger them, forcing reactions for you to try and capture. The end goal is to identify which type of ghost it is by checking your journal and collecting clues that proves a specific type of ghost. You’re free to leave at any time, but the more evidence you collect the more money you get for buying equipment between missions back at the base.
Honestly, it can be extremely unnerving. The vast majority of locations in Phasmophobia are extremely dark and your flashlight will only light up so much of a room before you have to rely on your other senses to move around. When I tried it out a few weeks ago (non-VR) I was playing with a full group of three friends and the little girl ghost we encountered in a family’s home was extremely aggressive.
It picked off my friends one by one until I was the only one remaining. At the end, it locked the door and I was left yanking on the doorknob desperately trying to get out. I barely escaped with my life, but I snagged a photo of her just as she caused my friend’s body to limply fall down the stairs.
Phasmophobia is very much in Early Access right now, but it’s already got an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ review average on Steam with over 15,000 reviews in less than a single month. Clearly, this is an untapped game format that has a lot of interest for a lot of people. According to the Steam page, they plan to full release the game next year, but that could change. Currently there are 22 pieces of equipment and 7 maps as well as daily challenges and a handful of avatars to pick from with 10 different ghosts.
Phasmophobia is out now in Steam in Early Access with full VR support that crossplays with non-VR players for $13.99. Don’t forget to check our list of other great VR horror games and let us know what you think down in the comments below!
Community Download – Empire Or Republic In Star Wars: Squadrons?
Community Download is a weekly discussion-focused article series published (usually) every Monday in which we pose a single, core question to you all, our readers, in the spirit of fostering discussion and debate. For today’s Community Download, we are focused on Star Wars: Squadrons Starfighters. We want to know what your preference is between the Empire (TIE Fighters, etc) and Republic (like the X-Wing) when it comes to Star Wars: Squadrons Starfighters. Which will you choose?
We’ve finally reached Star Wars: Squadrons launch week! There are only a few days left before we can strap on our VR headsets and be transported to the cockpit of iconic starfigthers like the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, A-Wing, TIE Interceptor, and more. Needless to say I, personally, am quite excited.
We’ve already published a detailed breakdown of all the details you need to know about before playing Star Wars: Squadrons, which has full VR support on both PC and PS4 (via PSVR), and we’ve also got details on the intricate customization options, ranking and progression, and the tactical power management. Not to mention the impressive-looking single player gameplay trailer.
There is a lot to take in here. You’ve got lots of ships to choose from, all of which have their pros and cons, so it can be overwhelming. We haven’t had a chance to check the game out just yet, but we’ll have a full review as soon as we can.
What do you think based on what you’ve seen so far? Do you think you’ll lean towards flying for the Republic or the Empire? Let us know down in the comments below!
