Cartoon Network Journeys VR Updated With New Content, Index Support

Cartoon Network Journeys VR released last year as a free experience for SteamVR users, with three separate ‘journeys’ on offer. Now, the game has received a new journey that is unlocked after completing its existing content.

As we noted upon release last year, Cartoon Network Journeys VR features new content and characters created by the Cartoon Network team for VR. Sadly, it doesn’t feature anything from Cartoon Network classics like Dexter’s Laboratory or The Powerpuff Girls, but instead opts for to tell an original story through the VR medium.

On launch, the game was available for free and featured three different experiences — Beyond Beevile, Jest to Impress and Kosma Kwest. The new journey added to the game is an extension of Kosma Kwest, called Kosma Kwest: The Lost Episode. The bonus journey is described by the developers on Steam as follows:

A tale of two capadildong caterpillars, each living in mirror opposite dimensions. Befriend one and isolate the other. Learn the pointless importance of dimensional currency and balance – all while being guided by your favorite honey child deity, Kosma.

This is a re-master of the original, unreleased pilot for Kosma Kwest. Created by the same Cartoon Network team that brought you Kosma Kwest.

There’s also a new mode called King Mode, and while the patch notes don’t make it clear what it actually entails, it apparently unlocks after completing the Jest to Impress journey.

Valve Index owners can also now enjoy the experience, as support has been added for the headset and its controllers.

Cartoon Network’s ‘Journeys VR’ Experience Gets Trippy with Reggie Watts, Trailer Here

Cartoon Network unveiled a new VR experience on Tuesday which is slated to take you on a magical trip through three original VR shorts. To guide you is—who else—the soothing baritone of comedian/musician Reggie Watts.

Watts lends his voice to Gormlorm, a “traveling wizard of the multiverse” who has set up camp in a desert oasis.

Developed by Paper Crane Games, TwinSky Games, and Cartoon Network Studios, the patently Wattsian experience takes you on three journeys, each of which looks to deliver the sort of mind-bending trip only VR can legally provide in most jurisdictions:

Beyond Beeville – As an outcast one-winged bee, you must save your colony from impending collapse by teaming up with your pollen companion, Penny. Explore the garden, solve puzzles, and discover secrets beyond the hive.

Jest to Impress – You are trying out as jester of the King’s court. As jester-in-training, you are presented with a series of escalating props and puzzles. The more the King laughs, the more jealous his personal bard becomes. If your comedic acts fall flat, prepare to become dragon food.

Kosma Kwest – You have been summoned to the cosmic plane to become a potential replacement for Kosma, The Supreme Being, who is in desperate need of a vacation. Complete four metaphysical lessons of the cosmos and take your place on the celestial throne.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the experience was created as a collaboration between multiple animators and artists who developed the VR experience during a series of workshops at the Burbank studio’s VR lab.

Journeys VR is slated to arrive for free on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on October 1st.

A Free Cartoon Network VR Game Is Coming Next Month

The eccentric world of Cartoon Network is soon to get the VR treatment.

Cartoon Network Journeys VR doesn’t bring famous shows like Dexter’s Laboratory or Powerpuff Girls into VR. In fact, it doesn’t even feature any of the new shows that I’m too old to understand. Instead, it features three original adventures that hone in on unique interactions and experiences.

In Beyond Beeville, for example, you play a one-winged bee that sets out on a journey to save its colony. Meanwhile, in Jest to Impress, you take on the role of a court jester and must make your king laugh. Finally, in Kosma Kwest, you train in metaphysical lessons to replace The Supreme Being before he heads out on holiday.

While it’s initially disappointing to learn the game won’t feature classic characters, each of these minigames seems genuinely considered and intriguing. Beeville has you exploring nature in minute detail, while Jest to Impress puts you on edge with the risk of failure. Kosma Kwest, meanwhile, looks like it’s full of all sorts of trippy.

The game appears to be jointly-developed by Paper Crane Games and TwinSky Games. It’s the second project to come out of the Cartoon Network’s VR Lab following last year’s We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush. The game is already listed on Steam.

The LA Times says Cartoon Network Journeys will release on Steam on October 1. It’ll support the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and be available for free. Don’t expect it to be the longest game, then, but we’re looking forward to it all the same.

Cartoon Network’s We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush is now Going Global

In 2018 Cartoon Network and AiSolve teamed up on a virtual reality (VR) experience called We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rushbased on Daniel Chong’s award-winning series We Bare Bears. Debuting at Family Fun Center in Tukwila, Washington, the companies have now confirmed a global launch of the title.

We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush

We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush is a multiplayer, free-roaming experience designed for up to three kids or young adults, putting their teamwork and decision making skills to the test with time highly limited. Players can transform into Panda, Grizz and Ice Bear as they work inside a food truck getting orders ready as fast as possible.

Played inside a 3m x 3m WePlayVR arena, We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush incorporates the immersive, haptic floor enhanced gameplay designed by AiSolve, making the experience even more intense as players try to avoid kitchen mishaps like dropping food or getting orders wrong.

“When Cartoon Network mentioned that the We Bare Bears experience would take place inside a food truck, we knew our platform would be a perfect choice for the content,” said Devi Kolli, CEO and Co-Founder of AiSolve in a statement. “When the food truck takes off on the adventure, our haptic floor responds to the driving, rumbling and creates a sensation of movement. This deepens the level of immersion and convinces them they’re really being driven around in a food truck.”

Being distributed by Bandai Namco, We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush will be heading simultaneously to the DEAL show in Dubai and the Amusement Expo in Las Vegas, this week. Cartoon Network and AiSolve are yet to reveal which countries are likely to see the videogame arrive next and when that might occur.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Cartoon Network and AiSolve, reporting back with the latest updates and announcements.

WePlayVR Announces Multiplayer Options

Location-based virtual reality (VR) is experiencing a surge in popularity, with an increasing number of VR centres and arcades opening up, giving consumers the chance to try out VR without the expense of setting up the equipment at home. AiSolve is aiming to keep pace with this market, has has announced several new developments for its WePlayVR line, including multiplayer.

AiSolve will be showcasing some of its new products at the Euro Attractions Show (EAS), an event which hosts some of the biggest names in amusement and entertainment to display new products and services.

At EAS, AiSolve will be demonstrating its first multiplayer title for its WePlayVR location-based VR line. The title is called Star Defence, and is described as an action-packed two-person space adventure.

Star Defence requires players to work together to battle a horde of dangerous robot drones. The title is played inside a 3m x 3m WePlayVR arena, which incorporates the immersive, haptic-enhanced gameplay that AiSolve has used in previous titles.

The company believes that the multiplayer title will allow VR attraction operators to earn greater revenue, as more customers can be catered to simultaneously. The new product will be available for demonstration at the Bandai Namco booth at EAS.

In addition, AiSolve have announced a re-design of the WePlayVR arena. The new design keeps the small 3m x 3m footprint, but includes new panelling and spectator portals, in addition to allowing for multiple players simultaneously.

AiSolve are also revealing a partnership with Cartoon Network to launch a location-based VR experience called We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush, which is based on one of Cartoon Network’s popular cartoon shows. The new experience will have its debut at Family Fun Center in Tukwila, Washington.

We Bare Bears: Food Truck Rush requires 2-3 players to work together to complete orders and avoid amusing kitchen disasters in a colourful cartoon world of talking animals.
