The VR Game Launch Roundup: Lots of Guns, Little Collaboration

VR Game Roundup

Welcome back to the first VR Game Launch Roundup of 2021, a time where VRFocus looks to the week ahead and what virtual reality (VR) content is due to arrive. While January can be a quiet month after all the festive sales have ended there are still a few interesting titles to arrive, especially for PlayStation VR owners.

CollabHub

CollabHub – CollabHub

Ok, so not technically a videogame but with lots of you having to work remotely these types of app are becoming popular. CollabHub is built around a central whiteboard where up to 12 of you can get together come up with ideas, and then put digital pen to digital paper so to speak.

Having been in Early Access since 2017, next week sees the official launch of CollabHub.

Buried Alive: The Annihilation VR – The Two Ravens

Created by two-man development team The Two Ravens, Buried Alive: The Annihilation VR is a gritty VR wave shooter. Released as an Early Access title, this visceral shooter sees you having to survive hordes of monsters anyway you like using medieval poles, axes, bows and of course plenty of guns.

To mix up the gameplay, Buried Alive: The Annihilation VR features an open world where you can explore, uncover the storyline, buy and upgrade guns as well as solving puzzles and finding a few easter eggs along the way.

Hitman 3

Hitman 3 – IO Interactive

Time for the biggest launch of the month, IO Interactive’s highly anticipated Hitman 3. Supporting most console and PC platforms, the PlayStation 4 version also happens to be PlayStation VR compatible. The entire campaign alongside all the additional modes are supported in VR, you can even bring locations from Hitman 1 & 2 – if you own them – into the third installment.

This will be the first time you can fully step into the shoes of Agent 47 and enjoy all the immersive qualities VR offers. The title only supports DualShock 4 controllers though, PlayStation Move isn’t supported.

  • Supported platforms: PlayStation VR
  • Launch date: 20th January

Bullet Roulette VR – Fibrum

For a very, very different style of shooter there’s Fibrum’s Bullet Roulette VR, adding a slight spin to the infamous game of Russian Roulette. With single and multiplayer modes, you sit at a table with three others and try to survive as long as possible.

To offer some variety and strategy to the experience you’re provided with various cards which can alter the gameplay and even save your life if you’re lucky.

  • Launch date: 21st January

Glider Sim – Joey Sipos

Designed to be a professional paragliding and paramotor simulator, Glider Sim will be an Early Access title when it arrives next week.

“Lots of attention went into the flight physics of the gliders as well as the wind and thermal system. Set your launch point and flying conditions then takeoff into the skies! Use wind current such as ridge lift and thermals to stay airborne,” notes the developer.

  • Supported platforms: Oculus Rift
  • Launch date: 21st January

Bullet Roulette VR Hits PlayStation VR on 21st Jan

Bullet Roulette VR

Next week sees the launch of Hitman 3 which is likely high up on most PlayStation VR owners wanted lists for 2021. If stepping into the shoes of the infamous assassin isn’t quite your thing then the day after Fibrum will release a very different gun-based videogame, Bullet Roulette VR.

Bullet Roulette VR

Originally released as a SteamVR Early Access title in 2019 followed by the official launch last September, Bullet Roulette VR takes Russian Roulette and gives it a gamified twist. Offering both solo and online multiplayer modes for up to four people the goal is simple, be the last to survive.

Set in a gloomy bar sat around a table with three other characters, with which you can shoot both yourself and the other players. The trick is to utilise the cards in front of you as well as the coins you collect to turn the game to your advantage. Rounds start as you’d expect, with each player pulling the trigger. If they survive they gain a coin which can be used to shoot another player on the next turn. Kill them and you take their cash.

The strategy is deepened by the three cards which will provide you with a variety of options such as re-spinning the guns drum, gaining extra lives; adding a second bullet in the drum or reversing the direction of play.

When playing the solo mode the AI will select from one of six characters to play against, each with their own particular behaviour. Over on the multiplayer side you’ll be able to create open or private rooms for friends to join or step into someone else’s game.

Bullet Roulette VR is scheduled to arrive for PlayStation VR on 21st January for $8.99 USD/€8.99 EUR. For more updates on the latest PlayStation VR titles coming in 2021, keep reading VRFocus.
