Filament Games have announced that their are launching a new experience that offers users an interactive virtual reality (VR) experience the celebrates history’s most influential women scientists. Entitled Breaking Boundaries in Science, the title has been made in partnership with Oculus and the Jane Goodall Institute and allow players the chance to immerse themselves in the working environments of Grace Hopper, Marie Curie, and Dr. Jane Goodall.
The aim of the experience is to try and encourage more people to become interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by providing them with a means to immerse themselves in environments of role models. By drawing from primary sources, Breaking Boundaries In Science elevates the women’s stories in contemporary media, emphasizing biographical details like their work environment and personal artifacts as a means to full flesh out the player’s understanding of their lives, work and achievements.
Filament Games VR, Jennifer Javornik recently wrote a blog post as well to detail the mission of the experience saying: “To get more people interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), research tells us that there needs to be more diverse STEM role models so that all people can see themselves in STEM professions. Unfortunately, there is a tendency to focus on STEM stereotypes rather than STEM role models, and STEM stereotypes are everywhere. STEM has a bad reputation for only being suited for one type of person, and we know that’s not true. But is it enough to simply raise awareness of the variety of STEM practitioners or do we need to do more to inspire people to move into the field?”
In order to ensure that Breaking Boundaries In Science can reach the widest audience available, the team are releasing the experience completely free of charge. This means all players need to do is head to the Oculus Store to download and experience the title for themselves. Once more, the title features the voice talent of Dr. Jane Goodall herself.
You can learn more about the Breaking Boundaries In Science over on the official website and can download the experience for yourself from the Oculus store page. There is a short trailer available to watch below as well. VRFocus will be sure to bring you more from Filament Games in the future so stay tuned for more.
