PSVR Games The Inpatient And Bravo Team Both Get 2017 Release Dates

PSVR Games The Inpatient And Bravo Team Both Get 2017 Release Dates

Supermassive Games (developers of Until Dawn: Rush of Blood) revealed two new PlayStation VR titles at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. After teasing fans with new psychological horror game, The Inpatient, and a PSVR Aim controller-fueled cover shooter, Bravo Team, both the developer and Sony remained quiet until today. Via a PlayStation Blog post this morning, Supermassive announced the release dates for both titles — they’ll be out on PSVR before the end of the year.

The Inpatient will hit store shelves and the PSN Store on November 21st, 2017, and Bravo Team does the same on December 5th, 2017. Here’s a new trailer for The Inpatient too, revealing a few more details about the psychological horror thriller’s story:

The game is set in Blackwood Sanitarium, a location that fans of the team’s first Until Dawn title will likely remember. This title will likely feature branching story elements that are similiar to the original Until Dawn and helped it earn critical acclaim. According to Supermassive executive producer Simon Harris in the blog post, “Your decisions and actions will determine the fate of people that you meet. You’ll get to influence and shape how the story unfolds as you witness the horrific events of the sanitarium’s final days.”

PSVR’s other upcoming title, Bravo Team, wasn’t as impressive during our E3 demo. The cover-based shooting mechanic worked well, but not being able to move at all other than popping from one cover spot to the next felt restrictive in the wake of Impulse Gear’s liberating Farpoint. We’ll have to wait and see how that one turns out.

Let us know what you think of each game, and if you’ll be picking them up later this year, down in the comments below!

Supermassive Games Confirm The Inpatient, Bravo Team Release Dates

We might’ve just had Gamescom for 2017 but it was this year’s E3 that brought us news of several new virtual reality (VR) videogames for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE’s) PlayStation VR headset. Today two of those videogames announced at E3 have release dates courtesy of the PlayStation Blog.

Bravo Team E32017 (2)The first up is first-person shooter Bravo Team, developed by Supermassive Games who previously brought to the PlayStation VR both Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and Tumble VR. Bravo Team puts you in a fast-paced combat scenario either in single player or online playing co-op with a friend.

VRFocus writer Peter Graham described the title in his preview as “Army of Two on steroids” and praised its use of the PlayStation Aim controller, describing the experience as “feeling very natural and intuitive”.

Bravo Team is set for release on 6th December 2017.

The second title to get a date is the other forthcoming PlayStation VR title from Supermassive Games, The Inpatient, which was revealed to be, in fact, a prequel to Until Dawn. Returning you to The Blackwood Pines Sanatorium in which owner Jefferson Bragg questions you on your past. A past which can be slightly fluid in how you remember it.

“For the most part videogame developers will give you ways of escaping, defending or attacking for that interactive element.” Explains Peter Graham in his preview, “Being a psychological horror experience that’s taken away, creating a far more uneasy feeling for the player.”

You won’t need to be quite as patient for The Inpatient as it will be released on 22nd November 2017. The title was recently confirmed to also be getting a retail release. Additionally a new trailer was released for The Inpatient which you can see below.

VRFocus will bring you more news on these and other VR titles from Supermassive Games in the near future.

PlayStation VR Brings The Big Guns to Gamescom

Gamescom is one of the biggest events of the year from developers and videogame fans. As such, Sony have brought out all its most hotly anticipated virtual reality (VR) titles to showcase at the event, most of which have playable demos available.

PlayStation has its own dedicated area on the show floor where attendees can ‘check in’ to try some of the biggest upcoming titles on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. VR-compatible titles on offer include Grant Turismo Sport, for which a set of full arcade-style racing seats have been set up to offer the most realistic experience on the eagerly awaited driving simulator. The VR mode for Gran Turismo Sport is only available in 1vs1 mode, but the PlayStation VR has been set up and is awaiting use if attendees wish to test it.

Also available at the PlayStation stand is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, a title whose announcement was greeted with great enthusiasm at E3. The Elder Scrolls is one of the most successful western RPGs, and its move into VR is eagerly awaited by fans. Another RPG title that is available is Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep, the Final Fantasy XV spin-off that using fishing as a central mechanic, along with introducing several RPG elements such as equipment upgrades.

PlayStation VR exclusive shooter Bravo Team is also on offer, giving Gamescom attendees the chance to get to grips with an Aim controller in the upcoming cover-based military-style shooter.

While not on the PlayStation stand, another anticipated PlayStation VR title was available to play, with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown being demonstrated at the Bandai stand for players to take control of a military jet in immersive VR.

PlayStation Prepares For PAX West

As you likely know next week is Europe’s biggest games focused industry event, the middle chapter of the ‘big three’, Gamescom over in Cologne, Germany. With the other two of course being E3 and the Tokyo Game Show which is still to come. Naturally the VRFocus team is (in part) attending the event and we’ll be providing you with plenty to read and watch over the course of the next week.  You’d be mistaken for thinking these were the only events on the horizon however, because there is also one of the PAX events – PAX West – heading your way at the beginning of next month.

Taking place over September 1st to 4th in Seattle Washington as PAX has grown so has industry representation at it and Sony have just announced the titles that you will be able to try out should you be heading there – which does include PlayStation VR titles. Eight of them to be precise.

Hands-On: Bravo Team Is Basically Time Crisis In VR With The Aim Controller

Hands-On: Bravo Team Is Basically Time Crisis In VR With The Aim Controller

During Sony’s E3 2017 press conference a whole slew of new PSVR games were announced from the perplexing sidescroller Star Child, to the unnerving and creepy The Inpatient. Hot on the heels of Farpoint though, Sony’s flagship VR device needed a new shooter for fans to sink their teeth into so when Bravo Team from Supermassive Games was revealed it looked just like the type of thing gamers would want. Utilizing the fantastic PSVR Aim Controller just made it seem even better too.

As it turns out though, Bravo Team isn’t exactly the next great sprawling shooter we thought it might be. Instead, it employs a very traditional modern military setting and rather than asking players to traverse large levels or move around the environment freely using the control sticks on the Aim Controller itself or DualShock 4, you just sit there and move from cover point to cover point like you would in arcade games such as Time Crisis.

During my demo I was on a freeway that was full of abandoned vehicles. My mission was to go from cover point to cover point slowly progressing up the highway. As I made my moves enemy soldiers would appear in waves, ducking behind car doors and trunks, firing at me from a distance. Using the PSVR Aim Controller I could reach up and blind fire from behind cars and aim down the sights to pick them off. Ammo packs and health boxes were spread around as well in true arcade game fashion.

The trailer above makes it look a lot more interesting than it actually is. We’ve played games like this before, such as Mortal Blitz, that aren’t necessarily bad, but it feels more like an early VR prototype than a second phase project designed to take the PSVR and Aim Controller to the next level. I’d have expected to see a game like Bravo Team at launch, not slated to come out a year or more after the headset’s been available.

My limited demo may only have shown a very short and abbreviated impression of the game, but it didn’t do much to make me think Bravo Team is going to be something special at all. When I saw the trailer I had visions of something like Onward or Pavlov on PSVR, but instead it’s just another wave shooter that doesn’t even have movement.

Bravo Team certainly has potential to be something worth your time, but the demo we saw at E3 2017 was less than impressive — even while using the PSVR Aim Controller. We’ll keep you posted on developments and how it shapes up before release, which is still TBD as far as we’ve heard.

What do you think of what you’ve seen of Bravo Team so far? Let us know down in the comments below!

Preview: Bravo Team – Army of Two on Steroids

Let’s start with a statement: Shooting stuff in videogames is great. You know it is. Whether it’s first-person, third-person, side-scrolling, or anything in between, if a percentage had to be put on the amount of titles that allow you to kill something with a gun it would be high, very high. And that’s no different for virtual reality (VR), in fact VR is dominated by them – generally wave shooters – so even after a year in consumer hands some refreshment is needed, but don’t necessarily expect that from one of the latest titles to be revealed for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation VR, Bravo Team.

Debuting at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017, Bravo Team is one of two titles unveiled at the event by Supermassive Games – the other being The Inpatient. Both go for a high level of realism, then splitting into a team based first-person shooter (FPS) and creepy horror respectively.

Bravo Team E32017 (3)

Developed for PlayStation VR and it’s Aim controller, Bravo Team will be familiar to anyone who’s played any sort of co-op FPS – especially titles like Army of Two. For the show demo two players had to make their way down a bridge filled with wrecked cars and other vehicles, taking out enemies en-route. This is your usual cover and shoot affair, where movement is limited to running between cover points, designated by half or full shields – a la XCOM. You could then peek out to shoot bad guys, or communicate with your partner to try and flank them.

Using the Aim controller feels very natural and intuitive. The normal face buttons let you reload, switch between cover positions and swap to an emergency sidearm in a pinch, as you might expect. While properly looking down the assault rifle’s red dot sight gives you a much more accurate targeting reticule for getting those head shots. You could also quick turn 180-degrees if you moved too far forward and enemies were behind you – also good for returning to a better defensive position. Additionally, the feature is required due to the tracking system on the PlayStation VR, turning more than 90-degrees away from the camera makes the Aim controller highly erratic and almost unusable.

While the demo only showcased Bravo Team in co-op mode there is going to be a single-player version. If it’s the same as the co-op just without your team mate – or possible AI – then Bravo Team should really be looked at as a purely two-player experience, as that going to be where the most fun will be had. Not only will players have to pick each other up should one go down, they’ll need to carefully manage ammo, as the crates available on route only dispense to the player that opens it.

Bravo Team E32017 (2)

Currently Bravo Team feels like a safe bet. A by the numbers approach to VR FPS titles, offering more interactivity and tactical opportunities than the stationary John Wick Chronicles, but lacking that special something that makes these early reveals one to watch. The main draw of Bravo Team is going to be its buddy system, whether that’s enough for players remains to be seen.

See More From Supermassive Games’ Bravo Team in These New Screens

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 had its fair share of surprise virtual reality (VR) announcements – no one expected another two VR videogames from Until Dawn developers Supermassive Games, for example. One of their newly announced VR titles is Bravo Team, a new PlayStation VR shooter, and we have the latest screenshots.

Players in Bravo Team can go alone, or with a friend, to fight against waves of enemies in a run-down city in Eastern Europe. Players can play with the PlayStation Aim controller, allowing for an extra level of immersion.

Linares stresses that the game’s design will test players’ skills; “Our levels and enemy situations are designed to test your ability to work as a team. Calling targets, covering fire and constant communication are the difference between success and failure.”

In the screenshots below you can see more of the city in crisis, as well as a firefight and shots of your player character and weaponry. It all looks fascinating, and with the pedigree of the developer taken into consideration, Bravo Team looks set to be an excellent PlayStation VR shooter – especially when played with a friend.

See PlayStation VR’s Exclusive Bravo Team In This Official Trailer

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 has introduced us to a brand new wave of PlayStation VR titles, enough to convince us that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) are still serious about virtual reality (VR). Among others, we got treated to two brand-new titles from Supermassive Games, the experienced publisher who have made Until Dawn among others.

Supermassive Games’ latest is Bravo Team, a single player or co-op experience which will see players engaging in heated firefights while calling orders or asking for help from their online co-op partner. These features, coupled with the PlayStation Aim, look to make Bravo Team an exciting and immersive experience.

Bravo Team E32017 (1)

Bravo Team’s Lead Designer, Keith Linares, has shared his enthusiasm for PlayStation Aim, saying; “Playing Bravo Team with the PS VR Aim Controller offers an even more enhanced experience. The super sharp accuracy and intuitive controls will make you feel as though you are actually holding the weapons in the game. As you play, you interact with your environment intuitively.”

Linares continues; “To get around cover simply lean left or right. To aim your weapon, just raise the controller and line up the iron sights. Pinned down by enemy fire? Lift the controller above your head and blind fire away.”

Below you can find Bravo Team’s official trailer, showing players exploring a city in Eastern Europe while fighting for their lives against vicious assailants.

Bravo Team just might be one of PlayStation VR’s essential shooters, especially if you’re looking into investing in a PlayStation Aim controller.

Supermassive Games Share More Details on PlayStation VR Shooter Bravo Team

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 is fully underway, and we’ve seen a slew of great virtual reality (VR) videogame announcements over the past few days. Now, we finally have details on Supermassive Games’ Bravo Team, which was announced during the PlayStation press conference.

Bravo Team is a brand new singleplayer and multiplayer co-op shooter from the team who made Until Dawn and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. Supermassive Games has set Bravo Team in a fictional version of modern day Eastern Europe, in the heart of a city in crisis.

You work either by yourself or with a friend via online co-op, immersing yourselves in the experience further by being able to shout commands to one other over voice chat.

Keith Linares, Bravo Team’s Lead Designer, has posted on the PlayStation Blog to share more details.

Linares reveals that Bravo Team will support the PlayStation Aim controller – a gun-like controller made to help immerse players in PlayStation VR shooters.

Linares stresses that the game’s design will test players’ skills; “Our levels and enemy situations are designed to test your ability to work as a team. Calling targets, covering fire and constant communication are the difference between success and failure.”

As with any VR title, Linares and the team at Supermassive Games focused on immersing players in the world they’ve created; “This sense of ‘being there’ is an enormous focus for us. Not only is the feel of battle key, we believe the sense of place and presence that comes from a seamless in-game experience is incredibly important. From beginning to end, you will fight through the streets and buildings without any loading or level select screens interrupting your immersive PS VR experience. Bravo Team will thrust you into the chaos of an action movie firefight.”

Bravo Team will launch on PlayStation VR, for all of the latest news from E3 2017, stay with VRFocus.
