Enjoy Massive Saving’s With the Humble Spring Into VR Bundle

Humble Bundle

If you time it right then there can be some great savings to be had on high-quality virtual reality (VR) titles and currently Humble Bundle’s latest is difficult to beat. For only the second time the platform is offering a VR-specific deal where you can get up to eight PC VR titles for an incredible discount.

Borderlands 2 VR

Called the Humble Spring into VR Bundle, the limited time offer allows gamers to unlock a selection of videogames depending on how much they wish to spend, with proceeds helping to support charitable endeavours. So for a minimum of 71p you can pickup zero-g sci-fi title Detached. Bump that up to at least £10.66 GBP and you’ll unlock Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Surgeon Simulator: Experience Reality, Swords of Gurrah and Espire 1: VR Operative.

Literally for a few pence more – £10.77 to be precise – you can add three more titles to that list, Job Simulator, Sairento VR and Borderlands 2 VR. Of course, if you are feeling charitable because you’re saving so much – total price would be £160 for all of them – you can up the bundle donation as you see fit.

The main charity highlighted for the Humble Spring into VR Bundle is Stop AAPI Hate, an organisation described as “a national coalition addressing anti-Asian racism across the U.S.” It was founded by the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) and San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies Department. But you can select a different charity should you wish to support one more local to you or focused on a field close to your heart.

ESPIRE

In any case, the Humble Spring into VR Bundle is a great deal if you’ve been looking to expand that VR library with a nice mixture of titles, especially as there’s no Steam sale currently. VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest VR software and hardware deals, reporting back with further updates.

Humble ‘Spring Into VR’ Bundle Includes Up To 8 VR Games For Just $15

Pick your price and donate what you want to the Humble ‘Spring into VR’ Bundle and get 8 PC VR games including Borderlands 2 VR and Sairento if you commit at least $15. The deal is available for two weeks, until March 21.

Humble Bundle: Spring into VR

Humble Bundle is a charity-based bundle website in which you choose to donate however much you want. If you donate at least $1 then you get Detached, pay at least $14.67 to also get Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Surgeon Simulator: Experience Reality, Swords of Gurrah, and Espire 1: VR Operative, and if you pay at least $15 you also get Job Simulator, Sairento VR, and Borderlands 2 VR. That’s over $160 worth of PC VR games.

This is only the second PC VR-focused Humble Bundle and it’s a really solid collection of classics that all headset users should consider having in their library. The $15 price tag is a great deal for any one of the top tier games on offer here, so getting all eight really is a good bargain.

Just like all of the bundles, you get to choose where your money goes by splitting it up between the game publishers, the Stop AAPI Hate charity (or a different one of your choosing), and Humble itself as a company. You can divide your contribution up however you see fit, including all of it to just one source if you want.

When you buy a Humble Bundle you’re given a Steam key for each of the included games. If you get a key for a game you already have, you could give it away or give it over to a friend.

Massive ‘Sh*t Just Got Real’ Sale At Green Man Gaming Discounts Tons Of PC VR Games

A massive Sh*t Just Got Real sale went live on Green Man Gaming with tons of PC VR game discounts including The Walking Dead, Superhot, LA Noire, and more.

Note: They can and will run out of keys and not every deal lasts as long as others. For example, as of the time of this writing at 12PM PT, the deal for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners only has six hours remaining and Star Trek: Bridge Crew is currently out of stock despite being on sale, but may become available again eventually.

You can find every game in the sale here or the ‘Top Picks’ from Green Man Gaming here. In total there are 63 games discounted including some deep price cuts as low as over 80% off. When you buy a game on Green Man Gaming it’s not a shady key reselling site, it’s just a storefront for Steam keys provided to GMG. It works like the Humble Store. After buying a game on GMG, you get a Steam key and access the game just like you had bought it on Steam directly.

Here are some recommended picks based on the sale price relative to the game’s value, in my opinion:

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (-40%, $24)

Samsung Odyssey Bug-Eyed Patent, Quest’s Big Christmas & Win Audica! – VRecap

There was a great mix of stories this week, from juicy headset rumors to VR success stories. Let’s jump right into the VRecap!

Okay, let’s state the facts here: These Samsung Odyssey patents are exciting, they’re not yet confirmed to be real, and they’d make me look like Jeff Goldblum in the worst way. It’s incredible how we’ve come so far in reducing bulky designs so quickly over the years, but Samsung is ready to throw it all away. Anyway, if you want to see more about the specs and less about it’s bugginess (get it, because the eyes), check out our article on it.

Oculus received the same Christmas present I’ve been asking for every year: five million dollars. It’s almost unsurprising to hear that they cashed in massively this Christmas – especially following the news of Quest being sold out during the holiday season.

And the last top story for this episode is the correction of the Steam’s VR hardware stats. VR is doing better than ever, we swear.

We’ve had two great ports this week, including Borderlands 2 VR on Index and Audica on Quest. Speaking of Audica on Quest, you’ve got a chance to grab a code for free in this week’s giveaway, courtesy of Harmonix! Enter the competition below for a chance to win – good luck!

GIVEAWAY: Win A Free Copy Of Audica On Oculus Quest!

There have been many great news stories this week but not all of them could make it into this episode, so here’s our honorable mentions for you:

Borderlands 2 Index Support Finally Released In Free New Update

Since its launch on PC VR headsets last year, Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 VR has strangely lacked support for the Valve Index headset. That changes this week.

Borderlands 2 Index support finally arrived in a free patch issued yesterday. That includes support for the Index controllers, with a new ‘2K Knuckles Config’ binding on SteamVR. Plus you can also move based on the direction in which your hands are pointing now, instead of just your head.

Finally, there’s an option to choose between 30, 60, 90, and 120 FPS for the scope window. Index support arrives after Gearbox accidentally listed support for the headset at its launch on Steam last year.

Fans have been clamoring for Borderlands 2 Index support since last year, so today’s news will be welcomed by many. Borderlands 2 VR in general has come a long way since its launch on PSVR back in 2018. Along with coming to PC VR headsets, it’s also added all of its original story-based DLC for free and the PSVR version of the game got support for the rifle-shaped Aim controller. There’s still no co-operative multiplayer support, though.

We think the game is a very decent translation of the original to VR, even if the lack of multiplayer stings.

We’re unlikely to see many other big updates for the game at this point, and we doubt we’ll be lucky enough to get a version for Oculus Quest. Still, that doesn’t have to mean the end of Borderlands and VR. We could perhaps still see the original game get support for headsets, but we’ve also got our fingers crossed that Gearbox is working on a VR version of last year’s Borderlands 3.

Will you be digging into Borderlands 2 now it supports Index? Let us know in the comments below!

Microsoft VR Research And Borderlands 2 VR Launch Issues And Giveaway! – VRecap

Welcome to Episode 13 of the VRecap! Yeah, we know, it’s Monday and not Friday and this is David not Jamie or Zeena, but you make due with what you’ve got.

This episode is a few days later than usual, we know, stop yelling! Last week we had a lot of weird scheduling issues on the team and were never really at full force at any point, so Zeena edited the video itself, I did the VO for the first time on this show, and we never had time to finish and post it — but here it is!

There were some really cool news stories last week for VRecap, like the city-scale research project, new eye-tracking revelations, and haptic feedback prototypes all from Microsoft. And Borderlands 2 VR finally launched on PC — but it had a slew of issues right out of the gate. We’ve also got a ton of new VR release dates for you as well for some big titles like Budget Cuts 2 and more.

Finally — this week’s giveaway is for Borderlands 2 VR on PC via Steam! Now if you’ve got a Valve Index or HTC Vive, proceed with caution, but it seems to be working okay for Oculus Rift users at this time. You can either click here or down in the widget form below:

GIVEAWAY: Win A Free Copy Of Borderlands 2 VR On Steam

Thanks so much for tuning into another VRecap! You can expect the VRecap to return to Fridays, more than likely, this week and make sure you tune into The VR Download every week for the latest news and big interviews all from within our virtual studio.

Have fun in VR!

Borderlands 2 VR Is Now Available For PC

After confirmation last month that the game would be coming to the platform, Borderlands 2 VR is now available on PC. The PC release comes almost a full year after the initial release on PlayStation VR in December last year.

The game is available on the Steam store and lists support for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the Valve Index – the latter of which is a nice addition, since it was not listed when the PC VR version’s release date was announced last month. Unfortunately, while the app launches on an Index it displays Vive Wands in place of the Index controllers and that causes instant confusion. We’ve reached out to Gearbox for comment about the inclusion of Index support on the Steam page and will update this post if we hear back.

Of course, the game was not initially designed for VR – it’s a port of the original Borderlands 2 game on PC and consoles. This means that, a bit like Skyrim VR and other ports, the game isn’t built from the ground up for VR. Despite this, David was still a fan of the game in his review of the PSVR version, and any complaints came from a place of love for the Borderlands franchise.

However, perhaps David’s biggest gripe with the PSVR version was the lack of any form of co-op multiplayer, which the original version of the games leaned so heavily on. “Borderlands 2 VR is a good port of a great game that could have been better,” he wrote. “The small gameplay tweaks aren’t enough to rewrite a game that was designed around four-player co-op, but the core of the experience is so strong, rewarding, and entertaining that it serves as a feature-rich and exciting VR shooter in its own right despite its flaws.”

The PC VR version doesn’t support multiplayer either, however, it does include all the DLC content that was missing from the PSVR version (which was recently added to that platform as well).

October Launch Date Appears on Steam for Borderlands 2 VR

While PlayStation VR owners have been enjoying Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 VR for almost a year now – and the ‘Bad Ass Mega Fun’ pack for the last couple of weeks – soon it’ll be the turn of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive owners, with the first solid release date now appearing on Steam

Borderlands 2 VR

Previously, Gearbox Software had only given a tentative ‘Fall 2019’ release window whilst avoiding naming which headsets would be compatible. As you can now see, the Steam store lists a 22nd October release date and two PC VR headsets – Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality are notably absent.

PC VR owners may have had to wait a little longer but when Borderlands 2 VR does arrive it’ll feature all the same content as its PlayStation VR cousin, which includes the ‘Bad Ass Mega Fun’ pack featuring DLC campaigns: Captain Scarlet and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, as well as five Headhunter packs; Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Packs, the Creature Slaughter Dome; the Vault Hunter Heads and Skin packs; plus the Mechromancer and Psycho classes.

All the features which made the original 2012 videogame so great are still there, including the character classes and the massive amount of procedurally-generated guns, each with their own capabilities and modifiers. As for new features, there’s the Slow-Mo ability and Teleport to glide across Pandora.

Borderlands VR - Screenshot

VRFocus gave the PlayStation VR version a maximum five-star rating in our review, saying: “it’s somewhat of a surprise that Borderlands was the first AAA the studio decided to go with. A pleasant surprise, that is, as Borderlands 2 VR is most certainly a highlight of this year’s VR releases and one of the best titles yet to hit PlayStation VR. It’s still Borderlands 2, sure, but you’ve never played Borderlands 2 like this before.”

Borderlands 2 VR doesn’t include any of the originals co-op features. For some local multiplayer madness check out Penn and Teller VR: Frankly Unfair, Unkind, Unnecessary & Underhanded from the same studio. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Borderlands 2 VR, reporting back with any further updates or announcements from Gearbox Software.
