Developer Bolder Games have revealed that their upcoming modern psychological horror videogame RED: Lucid Nightmare, will be releasing next month. The title is a survival-horror adventure videogame that will immersive players within a unique horror experience thanks to having virtual reality (VR) support for the Oculus Rift.

RED: Lucid Nightmare

In RED: Lucid Nightmare, players will step into the shoes of Mercedes, a down on her luck investigative journalist moving back into her family’s remote mountain home following an accident. After being passed a case by an old friend, she must discover the connection between her worsening nightmares and the missing family she has been tasked with finding before it is all too late. Players will need to not only search for the missing family during the day but also explore deadly nightmares at night as they try to solve the case.

Players will need to be ready to overcome the challenges that each night presents as they uncover all there is within this dangerous place. Armed with a lighter, a flashlight and later a radio, players will need to keep their wits about them. Watch out for traps and listen carefully as you more lightly through the locations. Monsters lurk within the twisted corridors and will track your moves. Thanks to the focus on both the nightmare and day time sections, players will move between the two sections and gameplay as they progress through the story.

RED: Lucid Nightmare

“Most horror games are comfortable retreading the same territory and exploiting the same cheap tricks and loud noises to surprise their players.” Explains Naiche Wasburn, Lead Designer at Bolder Games: “From the very first pitch, my goal was to design an experience that showed what I loved about horror and what I thought was missing from current games in the genre. Our goal with RED: Lucid Nightmare is to create a game that focuses on atmosphere, exploration, and terror without relying on jump scares or shock value. My most sincere hope is that the experience of our game follows a player from the screen, down the hallway, and then crawls stealthily underneath their bed.”

Those interested in experiencing the title before it’s release can sign up for the Closed Beta for a chance to gain early access. RED: Lucid Nightmare will be releasing in full on October 16th, 2018 on Steam for Windows with support for the Oculus Rift headset. VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on the title in the future so stay tuned for more.
