Terror Awaits Those Who Play Syndrome Today

It’s October so naturally there’s been a nice influx of scary videogames to get you in the mood for Halloween at the end of the month. The latest release comes from Bigmoon Entertainment and Camel 101 with sci-fi horror Syndrome which has arrived on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive today.

Syndrome was originally due for release in June last year, has seen several delays over the past few months, on PlayStation VR back in April before being moved to June. That never happened with the studio announcing in August that it would then be September. Of course it’s now October, the perfect time for this genre of videogame.

To be clear Syndrome isn’t a full virtual reality (VR) title. The full single-player campaign can’t actually be played in VR. After completing the first chapter of the main “Story” mode, players can unlock an Endless Survival mode specifically created to experience Syndrome in VR. This is essentially a wave shooter gameplay mode, where players are trapped in a part of the spaceship where they scavenge surroundings for weapons and supplies, facing waves of enemies.

“It’s been a truly long-awaited milestone to bring Syndrome to console players, and we are excited to offer the game on virtual reality platforms as well”, said Paulo J. Games, Game Director of Bigmoon Entertainment in a statement. “With VR, the sinister atmosphere and blood-curdling suspense is as real as it gets. We can’t wait to hear the feedback from players and hope that it was worth the wait.”

Syndrome is available on Steam for £24.99 GBP or via the PlayStation Store for £34.99. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Nina is the Reason why Game Developers Make Horror Games Like Syndrome

Nina is not a big fan of VR horror videogames. This is self-evident if you’ve watched her try Paranormal Activity . If you are the type of person who enjoys horror videogames and like that scare factor of running around, helplessly trying to survive in the dark with barely any weapons or ammo. Then you’re in luck. VRFocus tried Syndrome for the PlayStation VR at Gamescom and a lot of screaming was heard from the Bigmoon Entertainment booth.

Announced back in 2015, Syndrome is now finally coming to PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on the 29th of September. This science fiction horror survival title asks players to survive as many days as possible on a ship where monsters and mutated crew members try to hunt you down.

With limited amount of ammo or guns, and enemies rushing at you at any sound you make – Nina recommends camouflaging and hiding in order to avoid them. It definitely is a trial and error videogame, and you will have to remember where certain objects are in order to open doors and progress to more days. Watch the video below to get a better idea.

Syndrome Escapes Containment Next Month On PlayStation VR & PC VR

It has been a little while since we last heard about sci-fi horror videogame Syndrome, the last time being back in March this year when it was confirmed that the title, originally announced in 2015 and to be made playable with the Oculus Rift through its PC release. It was to make the leap to PlayStation VR at the end of April 2017 having been announced the month prior but it was then delayed. No further mention of the title or its Oculus Rift version was made at the time.

Syndrome ScreenshotIn Syndrome you wake up onboard a spaceship in a far off region of space. Dazed and confused from your time in deep sleep you come to realise there is something very wrong with the ship. The crew are in the majority missing, and those that aren’t… aren’t the crew anymore. It’s a tense, frantic battle for survival.

VRFocus raised the subject of the PC release with Big Moon Entertainment, who worked on the VR side of the game, (Camel 101 having worked on the core game elements) and we received confirmation that the PC VR version is coming. Speaking to Big Moon Entertainment’s PR and Community Manager Ricardo Mota he confirmed to us that the “VR Survival Mode” would be coming to Syndrome on 29th September 2017. Not just for PlayStation VR owners but for Oculus Rift and also for HTC Vive. As the name might infer, this is an alternate play option and unfortunately is not the full campaign.

VRFocus got hands-on with this mode and we’ll be bring you a preview of it in the near future. For more news from Gamescom be sure to check back regularly with VRFocus.

Newly-announced upcoming title Erased uses a similar style to Syndrome and will also be available on VR platforms. Erased follows the story of a military research team who head to a city in Russia that was destroyed by ‘The Tsar’ the largest thermonuclear bomb ever created. The team discover that the survivors have created a new civilisation living underground. After having no contact with the outside world for decades, the underground city has descended into a horror of mutated cannibals, power-mad dictators and brainwashed soldiers.

Bigmoon Entertainment are planning for Erased to be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with VR compatibility planned to be available for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The release is anticipated for Q1 of 2019.

The developers will be located at Hall 2.1, on Stand E30, with sessions available from 22nd-24th August, 2017.

VRFocus will bring you further information on Erased and Bigmoon Entertainment as it becomes available.

PlayStation VR Release of Syndrome Delayed

Horror shooter Syndrome appears to have had a somewhat troubled history. Initially announced back in 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, with the PC version promising Oculus Rift compatibility, then it vanished for a while until resurfacing as a PlayStation VR title. The news this time, sadly, is not as good.

When Syndrome was announced as a PlayStation VR release, developer Camel 101 said the title would be launched on to the platform on 28th April 2017. Unfortunately, a recent twitter statement from the developer indicates that the release date has been moved back to 2nd June.

This will be the second time that Syndrome has been delayed, since the title was originally slated for a June 2016 release. The cause of the new delay has not been announced by developer Camel 101 or publisher Bigmoon Entertainment.

Syndrome is a science-fiction horror shooter where the player awakes from suspended animation aboard what appears to be a deserted spaceship. Quickly discovering that the rest of the crew are either dead or mutated, the player needs to discover the truth behind what happened while trying to stay alive. Enemies react to every sound and movement, so caution is essential in order to avoid a messy death as the monsters are tough and ammo is scarce. Hiding and breathing as quietly as possible, along with other careful stealth moves are a critical skill in Syndrome.

It is currently unknown if Syndrome will be ported to any other platform, such as the Oculus Rift that was mentioned during the original announcement, but the PlayStation VR version is expected to retail for a price of £34.99 (GBP).

VRFocus will bring you further news on Syndrome and other PlayStation VR titles once it becomes available.

New Syndrome Screenshots Revealed

Following the confirmation last week that Syndrome would see release on PlayStation VR in the not too distant future, a selection of new screenshots from the videogame has appeared. A science-fiction horror title in virtual reality (VR), Syndrome charges the player with survival against the odds as their former crewmates vie for their blood.

To survive the horror of what is left of the crew, Syndrome tasks players with first arming themselves. Very few weapons are scattered about and ammunition is scarce; far from adequate to deal with the transformed monstrosities lurking in the shadows of the ship. What’s more, these horrors will react violently to every movement and sound, so players must quickly learn that hiding and breathing as noiselessly as possible is the best course of action to both avoid and defeat the enemies.

The new screenshots seen below are taken directly from the PlayStation VR version of Syndrome. It’s not yet known whether the previously announced Oculus Rift edition of the videogame will see a simultaneous release next month, but you can be sure that VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Bigmoon Entertainment’s debut VR title.

Syndrome Re-emerges for PlayStation VR

Camel 101’s Syndrome was originally revealed back in 2015, with Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC releases announced; the latter of which compatible with the Oculus Rift. Now however, the title appears to have made the jump to PlayStation VR and is set for release next month.

Syndrome aims to take the science-fiction horror genre back to its roots with the aid of virtual reality (VR) technology, as players wake up on a deserted spaceship. Dazed and confused from a deep cryosleep, they soon discover that most of the crew are dead or have been mutated. Surrounded by reactive enemies that pick up on every move and sound, players must discover what has happened to the spaceship and how to escape its claustrophobic confines alive.

Originally slated for a June 2016 release, Syndrome disappeared off the radar for quite some time. VRFocus had previously toyed with the idea that a PlayStation VR version was on the cards but no confirmation was available at that time. Now, the PlayStation VR version is coming in hot and we’re left wondering about the Oculus Rift edition, and indeed the potential for HTC Vive to see a compatible release also.

Due to be published both digitally and at retail via Bigmoon Entertainment, Syndrome will be made available for PlayStation VR on 28th April 2017. The videogame is expected to retail for 34.99 GBP in the UK, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on the PlayStation VR and potential PC editions of Syndrome.
