Ubisoft’s Escape Room Title Beyond Medusa’s Gate Arrives at VR Arcades Worldwide

Ubisoft continues its growing involvement in virtual reality (VR) today, announcing the launch of another title for location-based entertainment (LBE) venues. Ubisoft Blue Byte has just released escape room experience Beyond Medusa’s Gate for VR arcades in the US and Europe.

Beyond Medusa's Gate

Designed as a multiplayer cooperative VR experience, Beyond Medusa’s Gate uses Assassin’s Creed’s Odyessy’s recreation of Ancient Greece as it’s the backdrop, in a similar vein to Ubisoft Blue Byte’s previous VR experience  Assassin’s Creed Origins: Escape the Lost Pyramid which was based in Ancient Egypt.

The minimum number of players is two, with up to four being able to create a team. They then have 60 minutes to find a way out of a vast Aegean coastal cave where the legendary ship of the Argonauts is anchored. Being a team-based experience, player’s do have to work together (so no falling out halfway through!) to solve complex puzzles and devious riddles to be victorious in this room scale challenge.

To make the videogame a bit more customisable and unique to each player, everyone has the option to choose from six avatars which will represent them in-game. Additionally, before the adventure starts each avatar can be further modified with ancient Greek accessories.

Beyond Medusa's Gate

Beyond Medusa’s Gate is available exclusively at over 100 VR arcades via the Ubisoft Escape Games platform. European locations include the UK, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Sweden, while there are numerous locations across the US and Canada. Check this interactive map to find a location near you.

Alongside Ubisoft’s dedicated LBE VR experiences its most recent VR release was another multiplay called Space Junkies. Available in VR arcades as well as home headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, the first-person shooter (FPS) arrived at the end of March after numerous public beta tests. The studio has already outlined future plans for the videogame including PlayStation Move support, additional modes, maps and characters, all of which could be coming during the course of 2019.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Ubisoft’s latest VR LBE plans (as well as Space Junkies), reporting back with the latest updates.

Beyond Medusa’s Gate is Ubisoft’s Second Location-Based VR Experience, Arriving May 2019

Unlike many big videogame studios, Ubisoft has clearly embraced virtual reality (VR) with a variety of immersive titles both for home use as well as location-based entertainment (LBE). Having previously created Assassin’s Creed Origins: Escape the Lost Pyramid Ubisoft Blue Byte has announced its latest LBE experience, Beyond Medusa’s Gate.

Beyond Medusa’s Gate is the second location-based VR escape room experience from the studio based in the Assassin’s Creed universe, set in the re-creation of Ancient Greece from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

A cooperative videogame design for between two to four players, they’re challenged to find a way out of a vast Aegean coastal cave where the legendary ship of the Argonauts is anchored within 60 minutes. Each game starts by players choosing their own character which can then be customised using Ancient Greek accessories. Players then have to work together to solve various brain-teasing puzzles and riddles.

“Ubisoft’s Escape Games are tapping into two popular and growing entertainment trends—combining escape rooms and location-based VR in highly immersive, one-of-a-kind experiences,” said Cyril Voiron, Executive Producer for Ubisoft’s Escape Games in a statement. “Beyond Medusa’s Gate continues the legacy of our game design and storytelling expertise, pushing the Escape Room experience category with memorable state-of-the-art VR experiences that go beyond what is physically possible.”

“The level of immersion in Beyond Medusa’s Gate is astonishing and will make players feel like they are truly in the game,” said Benedikt Grindel, Managing Director at Ubisoft Blue Byte. “Our goal with Ubisoft’s Escape Games is to revolutionize the Location Based Entertainment industry and bring virtual reality to a mainstream audience.”

Beyond Medusa’s Gate will be coming to over 100 locations across the US and Europe on 7th May. As further details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Beyond Medusa’s Gate Is Ubisoft’s Next Assassin’s Creed VR Arcade Game

Beyond Medusa’s Gate Is Ubisoft’s Next Assassin’s Creed VR Arcade Game

Ubisoft is pressing on with its location-based VR business. The company today announced its second game for the initiative, which again ties into the world of Assassin’s Creed.

Beyond Medusa’s Gate will be arriving at locations across the US and Europe on May 7th. It’s again developed by Blue Byte, the studio that made last year’s excellent Escape the Lost Pyramid. Whereas that piece tied into Assassin’s Creed Origins, though, Beyond Medusa’s Gate is set in the world of last year’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. As the name suggests, that’s ancient Greece.

The game can be played with either two or four players. Teams will have up to 60 minutes to work their way out of a coastal cave. It houses the ship of the Argonauts. As with Escape the Lost Pyramid, you’ll need to work together to solve puzzles in order to get out alive. Don’t expect any combat, but you’ll at least get a taste of the world of Assassin’s Creed inside VR. We don’t have any other images to go on right now other than the one above.

We really liked Escape the Lost Pyramid when we tried it out last year. While it might not be the full Assassin’s Creed VR experience fans want, it shows VR at its collaborative best.

Elsewhere, Ubisoft’s Space Junkies is now in VR arcades across the globe too, though it launches today on home VR headsets. We’re hoping to see some of the company’s other famous brands like Far Cry and Rainbow Six make their way into the location-based realm too.
