Virtual reality will be big for Bethesda this year with two new VR titles, Fallout VR and DOOM VFR, coming in 2017. Both trailers provided a brief glimpse into gameplay, though Bethesda didn't follow-up with details.
Here we've gathered the best, most exciting, and jaw-dropping trailers we've seen at E3 so far, and we'll keep you updated with the very latest as more trailers drop in the coming days.
Today Bethesda has made several big announcements for virtual reality (VR) fans, with Fallout 4 VRand DOOM VFRboth confirmed as 2017 titles. Not only that but the latter is now available for pre-order for PlayStation VR.
On PlayStation.StoreDOOM VFR is retailing for $29.99 USD with a release date of 31st December 2017 – this is most likely a place holder date as Bethesda made no specific date announcements during the E3 2017 press conference.
On top of that DOOM VFR will also get a retail version for gamers that like a physical copy of their videogames. As yet this doesn’t have a date of arrival, or whether it’ll be the same price as the digital copy.
With VR announcements being decidedly thin so far for the E3 2017 press conferences, Bethesda’s two opening announcements have certainly turned that tide. Expectations were that Electronic Arts’ (EA) first event on Saturday, wouldn’t hold much promise but there was a small glimmer of VR by way of a new division called SEED. While today’s press event from Microsoft had the official unveiling of Xbox One X, but no mention of it’s VR support.
As VRFocus learns more about DOOM VFR and Bethesda’s VR plans for 2017, we’ll let you know.
It's official, Bethesda is bringing the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to the Nintendo Switch with a host of new features. Or well, something like that. The core gameplay appears to be the same, but there are a couple important tweaks that lend the game an undeniably 'Nintendo' vibe.
The Evil Within 2 is set to build upon the truly terrifying foundation director Shinji Mikami laid with the first game when it lands on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year.
Well Bethesda hasn’t disappointed virtual reality (VR) fans with its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 press conference with the official unveiling of DOOM VFR and Fallout 4 VR both coming to the HTC Vive head-mounted display later this year. If you missed the livestream, VRFocus has the DOOM VFR trailer below so you can see what its all about.
Featuring the same hardcore first-person shooter (FPS) gameplay that the traditional videogame is known for, DOOM VFR has everything fans would expect from a VR version, with big guns, horrific enemies straight from hell and more besides. The title also uses teleportation to quickly move about levels.
DOOM VFR will launch later this year for HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, although no actual date has yet been confirmed.

During Bethesda’s E3 2017 conference they made clear that they were doubling down on Bethesda VR, and that all starts with two titles new for virtual reality (VR) – Doom VR and Fallout 4 VR. The support for VR comes as no surprise, as Bethesda have shown demos of their games running on head-mounted displays (HMDs) before.
Launching in 2017, Fallout 4 VR will offer a whole new way to role play in your RPGs, adding an extra level of depth and immersion. The game is confirmed for HTC Vive thus far, with no announcements for other VR platforms yet.
The announcement isn’t too shocking, after we earlier reported that Bethesda’s Vice President of PR, Pete Hines, mentioned the game would be making an appearance during Bethesda’s E3 conference.
In the trailer below we can see how players will be able to lift their arm and view their Pip-Boy in real time, as well as lift and inspect objects in the environment. The prospect of getting a whole new perspective on one of the best RPGs in recent years is a very exciting prospect, potentially making this a new essential title for HTC Vive.
Support for other VR HMDs, such as Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, is yet to be announced.
Whether it’s the scenic sea or terrifying giant monsters and robots, we can’t wait to explore the wasteland again in VR. To see Fallout 4 VR for yourself, just take a look at the trailer below.

Bethesda confirmed that VR versions of Doom and Fallout 4 are coming in 2017.
Fallout 4 is coming in October 2017 to the HTC Vive while Doom VFR was also confirmed to be coming this year. The latter title is planned for both PlayStation VR and Vive. There’s no word yet on whether or not the titles might support the Oculus Rift, even unofficially through Steam — Bethesda parent company ZeniMax won a $500 million judgment against Oculus earlier this year in a case centered on Oculus CTO John Carmack’s work.
The virtual reality presence at E3 this year is expected to be almost double what it has been as developers and publishers move full steam ahead with immersive experiences. The first true example of heightened focus is at Bethesda’s conference which opened with showing one of their flagship games, Fallout, running in full VR with a release slated for October 2017.
Back in April, AMD’s VP Roy Taylor stated that he believes Fallout VR will be a “ground-breaking VR title…[that] will change the way we think about VR” and that “it will be an industry changer”. Many around the industry likely share that sentiment for various reasons: Fallout is a known brand, Bethesda is a developer with a lot of experience and pedigree, and the game would be one of the densest entries in an ecosystem largely populated by 2-4 hr experiences.
The trailer description for the title offers the following details:
With the power of VR, you’ll be able to get up-close-and-personal with the dangers of a post-apocalyptic world as you fight for survival. Featuring new combat, crafting and building systems fully reimagined for VR – including VR-enhanced V.A.T.S. – Fallout 4 VR isn’t just a jaunt through the Wasteland, it’s the entire game. The whole world is fully explorable. That includes hundreds of locations, characters and quests. This is your opportunity to step into the Wasteland and experience Fallout 4 in a whole new way.
There’s no word yet on whether the game will support the Oculus Rift, even unofficially through Steam as many games do. ZeniMax is the parent company of Bethesda and remains locked in ongoing litigation with Oculus after a $500 million judgment earlier this year.
