VR Plays Big at 2017 D.I.C.E Summit

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) has announced a selection of new speakers for the 2017 D.I.C.E. Summit, taking place 21st-23rd February 2017, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Speakers will examine various aspects that drive World Building; from building prosperous creative communities that welcome and nurture player communities to the many ways in which new technologies can offer a glimpse of the future of videogame development.

Justin Roiland, co-creator, writer and voice actor on Adult Swim’s Rick & Morty, and Tanya Watson, former Epic Games executive producer, are taking the D.I.C.E. stage to chat about their approach to making memorable and humorous videogames for the VR world through their company Squanchtendo. What would that look like? What types of things would happen? What would be different about the development process to support it? How is it more engaging in VR? What experiences do they have to lend to its creation? Roiland and Watson will paint that theoretical world along with the potential opportunity for VR, alongside its advantages and disadvantages.

These industry experts will join previously announced speakers that include Graeme Devine, Chief Game Wizard, Magic Leap, Jason Rubin, Head of Content at Oculus VR, and Ted Price, CEO and Founder, Insomniac Games.
The 2017 D.I.C.E. Summit will be held 21st-23rd February 2017, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas.

Oculus’ Jason Rubin Confirmed as Speaker for 2017 D.I.C.E. Summit

The annual D.I.C.E. Summit – organised by The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) – has now opened registrations for the event alongside revealing the first speakers, with Oculus’ Head of Content, Jason Rubin taking part.

Rubin will take to the stage with a moderator for a fireside chat to discuss his thoughts and perspectives on how virtual reality (VR) has built a defining role in the next generation of videogame development.

Two other speakers have also been announced, Bonnie Ross, Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Head of 343 Industries, will be hosting a session titled, “Stewards of a Sci-Fi Universe.”  She will discuss when to guide, when to guard and hold firm, when to evolve and the importance that the citizens of that universe – the community – play in keeping a world relevant in the ever-changing entertainment landscape. And

Guillaume Rocheron, an Academy Award winning VFX Supervisor for Life of Pi, whose currently working on the live-action film, Ghost in the Shell. Rocheron will be speaking on “Visual Effects and Storytelling: From Creating Stand-Out Shots to Developing Worlds.”

The 2017 D.I.C.E. Summit will be held at Delano Las Vegas and Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, form 21st – 23rd February 2017. Networking events taking place over the thre days include: Magic: The Gathering, go-karting and poker tournaments, two days of a single-track speaker program and more  The final day of the conference will culminate with the 20th D.I.C.E. Awards, honouring the best videogames of the previous year.
