The VR Game Launch Roundup: A Sneaky September Selection

As September draws to a close, here are a host of new virtual reality (VR) videogames being released over the course of the next week. Fans of first-person shooters will not be disappointed. BlastworldEspire 1: VR Operative

Become an ‘Espire agent’ and take control of a futuristic drone armed with state of the art weapons and gadgets in this virtual reality stealth experience. Featuring full freedom of movement and varying levels of immersion, experience this full single-player story along with smaller challenges and make use of the game’s voice control to make commands and take charge.

Blastworld

New from Finnish games studio, Hipfire Games, you can run, jump and fly across various maps in this competitive first-person PVP adventure where you swap out traditional multiplayer weapons for foam dart guns and other comedic weapons. Featuring various levels of immersion. Currently a demo, the studio is looking to release a full release in the future.

After-H

After-H

After two years in development and after gathering feedback from various sources, After-H is getting another release so users can give feedback on a much larger scale in this new early access release. Set on Mars, this FPS experience sees 2-8 players fight to take control of the solar system in this competitive experience. Currently, the game includes 3 maps, three different weapons and 3 different modes of gameplay.

Intruders: Hide and Seek

In this first-person stealth horror VR experience, you view your surroundings through the eyes of a defenceless boy stuck in a house that has just been invaded by intruders. You must work to move around unnoticed to protect your family in this four-hour-long experience.

Another Friday means another roundup of virtual reality (VR) videogames coming out over the next week. Here are some of the most anticipated titles of the year combined with some titles from up and coming developers. New from Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and Tequila Works, Groundhog day: Like Father Like Son is a VR continuation of the 1992 classic film. Assume the role of Phil Connors Jr, son of Phil Connors from the original film as you also find yourself trapped in an endless time loop.

Featuring both characters from the film & a host of new faces. Over 25 years later, find out how the events of Groundhog day play out in this new social media-obsessed age.

Home A Drone – Construct Studio

New from Construct Studio, in this VR FPS adventure you must defeat the enemies from the evil DroneCorp. You must defend yourself using a series of quirky makeshift weapons which you can build and upgrade as the game progresses. Currently, in early access, later updates to the game will include multiplayer, more weapons and bosses.

Witching Tower – Daily Magic Productions

The Witching Tower is a new VR action-adventure title from Daily Magic Productions where you battle your way through mysterious levels of stunning fantasy environments. The Witching Tower’s Queen is at the architect of this world’s chaos, so armed with enchanted weapons and your ability to control the undead, you must survive and conquer in this world riddled with sickness and death.

Doors of Silence

New from Blackbite Interactive comes Doors Of Silence. This new survival VR horror game is set in 1988 Pennsylvania where you attempt to fight for survival in a medical centre where horror lurks around every corner. You must fend off surreal deformed creatures you while trying not to slip into insanity yourself.

The second week of September will see a varied mix of different genres across these 5 unique titles, whether you are into calm and mesmerising or a fast-paced role-playing game (RPG), there is something for everyone this coming week.

Hellsplit: Arena

Hellsplit: Arena – Deep Type Games

Hellsplit: Arena is a horror-slasher videogame where you play as an ultra-realistic avatar that correctly matches your own human movements. This fantasy world in the Middle Ages is overrun with the undead and you must use a series of medieval weapons and your own fighting skills to kick, cut and stab your way to victory in this room-scale VR experience.

Battlewake

Battlewake is a swashbuckling new VR adventure from studio Survios. In this 20-chapter adventure, you experience solo, co-op & PvP modes of gameplay. Play as four ancient pirate lords, each wielding their own supernatural abilities as you attack hordes of enemy boats and fortresses. Also featuring “plunder mode,” a pirate-themed deathmatch of battle and looting. Collect and spend looted gold to boost your own ship’s arsenal.

This well-received single and multiplayer action title was first released in 2016. It has now been given the Oculus Quest treatment where players can relive fond memories of defeating hordes of enemies with crossbows while dodging axes when war breaks out in your kingdom.

Spice and Wolf VR – Spicy Tails

Based on the Japanese Light novel series by Isuna Hasekura, the story follows the adventures of travelling merchant Kraft Lawrence and Holo, who can transform herself into a wolf. You join them as they seek refuge in an old abandoned house. Working with the original creators of Spice and Wolf, this VR animation has been developed and published by SpicyTales and can still be enjoyed in 2D by non-VR users.

The Angry Birds Movie 2: VR Under Pressure – XR Games

The popular Rovio Entertainment videogame series flung its way onto mobile devices late 2009. Now almost a decade on, the battling birds have continued to reach new heights with their ever-growing universe of books, comics, TV shows, two feature films and of course new games. This newest release is a PlayStation VR exclusive couch co-op based off the most recent feature film, The Angry Birds Movie 2, and takes place on board the Piggy Gadget Lab from the same film.
