Gambit: 4-Player Co-Op VR Shooter Coming 2022, New Trailer Revealed

We’ve just got our first look at gameplay from upcoming VR co-op shooter, Gambit.

The story-focused (and profanity-laden) trailer made its debut at the Upload VR Showcase. It gives us our first glimpse of in-game footage of the long-in-development shooter, which has echoes of classic co-op titles like the Payday series. Check it out below.

Gambit Trailer Revealed

In the game, four players — taking on the roles of  Frank, Udo, Cody, and Kevin — complete heist-style missions, overcoming the odds in firefights and stealing loot. You’ll tear through levels with friends, climbing over obstacles and working together.

The trailer reveals a train yard style level where players fight drones, take out surveillance equipment. It also hints at the game’s wider story, which our band of misfits seemingly in hot water.

XREAL is promising a 20+ hour campaign for the game, with nine levels split across three chapters. You’ll be able to unlock an extensive arsenal of weaponry, unlock skins and masks, play minigames and also take part in PvP events. The game will also get free updates post-launch.

Gambit is in the works at XREAL, the VR developer best known for games like A-Tech Cybernetic and Zero Caliber. Currently the game’s on track for a release on Quest 2 and PC VR later this year. No other headsets have been confirmed at this time.

We’ve got plenty more to talk about at the Upload VR Showcase today. Make sure to tune in. What did you make of the gameplay reveal for Gambit? Let us know in the comments below!

Broken Edge Is A Stylish New Multiplayer VR Sword Fighting Game

Fast Travel Games and Trebuchet just announced multiplayer VR sword fighting game, Broken Edge, at the Upload VR Showcase.

Check out the first trailer for the game below. In Broken Edge, two players go head-to-head, selecting different characters and weapons and learning their unique fighting styles. As you duel, blades will chip and break, forcing you to rethink your approach until one player manages to hit the other.

Broken Edge Announcement Trailer

“We’ve worked really hard to create a seamless and impactful experience as your blades clash and break thanks to our cutting edge fencing mechanics,” Creative Director Guillaume Perreault Roy says in the video. The result is a game that looks a little like Ironlights, though Broken Edge appears to let you swing your blade freely and not slow down the action. Visually, the game boasts a striking, pastel color palette, too.

This will be Trebuchet’s fourth VR game following on from last year’s launch of Winds & Leaves and Prison Boss VR before that. It’s also the second announced publishing project from Fast Travel Games, who released Cities: VR themselves earlier this year and published VR music maker, Virtuoso. The company will have a few more reveals during the Showcase, so keep your eyes peeled.

Broken Edge is currently confirmed to be coming to Quest 2 and SteamVR later this year. No word yet on possible PSVR versions, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Stay tuned to the Upload VR Showcase; we’ve got plenty more reveals and headlines lined up for today.

What The Bat Is A Manic VR Follow-Up To What The Golf

What The Golf is the ridiculous follow-up to What The Golf, and it’s coming to VR.

The new game from Denmark-based Triband was revealed at the Upload VR Showcase today. What The Golf was a comical, physics-driven flatscreen game in which you did anything except play a normal round of golf. What The Bat is pretty much the same concept; you have a bat in either hand but, instead of playing baseball, you try complete a range of outlandish tasks.

Check it out in the first trailer below.

What The Bat Reveal Trailer

Over 100 different increasingly crazy tasks are set to be featured in the full game. Minigames in the trailer include trying to make breakfast, playing pinball, getting food out of a vending machine and, of course, petting a dog.

As you play, you’ll be able to unlocked new arcade games and compete for high scores with friends. Overall Triband says the game will offer over four hours of content.

“After years of failing to understand the rules of golf we are pursuing a new passion: failing to understand baseball,” Peter Bruun, Game Director at Triband, said in a prepared statement. “This game is all curveballs and we expect to hit it out of the park later this year. Sorry for the baseball lingo. My bat.”

In some senses, it reminds us of Nintendo’s Warioware series, though VR fans could also draw comparisons to the physics-driven fun of Tentacular.

What The Bat will be releasing on Quest 2 and PC VR via Steam later this year. Stay tuned to the Upload VR Showcase for plenty more updates and reveals from the world of VR gaming.

Hellsweeper: Sairento VR Follow-Up Confirmed For Quest 2, Vertigo Publishing

Gory VR combat game, Hellsweeper, is set to be published by Vertigo Games, it’s coming to Quest 2, too.

The news was announced during the Upload VR Showcase today. Developed by Mixed Realms, Hellsweeper is a follow-up to popular VR action game, Sairento. The game was already announced for PC VR headsets, but now we know we’ll be able to play it on the standalone device, too. Check out a brand new trailer for the game running on PC below.

Hellsweeper Confirmed For Quest

As you can see in the trailer, Hellsweeper retains Sairento’s focus on agile combat, but swaps out the sci-fi setting for a dark fantasy tone. You’ll slash through hordes of demonic enemies using swords, spells and firearms as you wall-run and backflip your way through levels. Blood spills and you chop opponents in half or bludgeon them to death. Good fun for all the family, then.

The game also introduces a roguelike structure, allowing you to upgrade your character as you progress. Co-op support is also mentioned on the Steam listing, but more details are yet to be revealed.

It’s not clear yet when Hellsweeper will arrive and in what order. For now, the game’s listed as a Q3 2022 release on SteamVR, but there’s no date for the Quest 2 version yet. Expect to hear those details in the coming months.

Keep following the Upload VR Showcase as we’ll have plenty more announcements and reveals from the show. What did you make of the latest look at Hellsweeper VR? Let us know in the comments below!

Liminal Phase Is A Creepy Lo-Fi VR Horror Coming Soon

Liminal Phase is a creepy new VR horror game with a lo-fi style, and it’s coming soon.

The project was announced today at the Upload VR Showcase, and is developed by a small indie development team from Sweden named anananas studio. The game is set in an alternate history in the 1990’s where players are cast as Frank, who suffers from chronic depression. Frank’s obsession with videogames starts to drag him deeper into his psyche, eventually forcing him to confront his fears.

Check out the first trailer for the game below.

Liminal Phase Reveal Trailer

One look at Liminal Phase suggests the game’s going for a disturbing psychological horror using a lo-fi visual style. Though we don’t have a lot of details on what you’ll actually do in the game yet, the trailer shows Frank fending off some strange-looking enemies and likely experiencing hallucinations. The developer says to expect puzzles, too.

This won’t be anananas’ first game. The team released a similarly surreal experience called DunDunVR in late 2021. It’s available for free on SteamVR if you want to get a taste of the studio’s past work.

For now, we know Liminal Phase is also due to launch on PC VR, and should be launching in Q1 of 2023. No word yet on if the game could possibly come to other headsets.

Stay tuned to the Upload VR Showcase, as we have yet more announcements on the way. What did you make of the reveal of Liminal Phase? Let us know in the comments below!

HoloLens Head Leaving Microsoft Following Harassment Claims, MR Team Reorganized – Report

Microsoft technical fellow and mixed reality figurehead Alex Kipman is reportedly leaving the company in the wake of misconduct allegations, leading to a reorganization in its MR efforts.

Late last month Insider reported [paywall] on claims of inappropriate behavior from Kipman, who heads up Microsoft’s HoloLens and mixed reality work. One alleged incident included Kipman watching an “overtly sexualized pillow fight” in VR in front of staff, with another claiming the executive rubbed the shoulders of a female employee as she “looked deeply uncomfortable”.

Another article from Insider today now says that Kipman has resigned from the company. GeekWire has since published an apparent internal email from Scott Guthrie, the head of Microsoft’s Cloud & AI Group, both announcing the departure and a shake-up for the wider mixed reality team. Microsoft has not responded to either article.

The reported email explains that Kipman will remain at Microsoft for two more months to help with the transition, but doesn’t make note of the allegations against him. “Over the last several months, Alex Kipman and I have been talking about the team’s path going forward,” it reads. “We have mutually decided that this is the right time for him to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.”

The rest of the email, meanwhile, explains that Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Hardware teams are being integrated into the Windows + Devices organization. “This move will integrate our Mixed Reality hardware teams as part of Microsoft’s broader end-user device hardware organization,” the email reads. “Both HoloLens and IVAS are built using Windows, and this move further aligns our client platform efforts.”

It also states that the Mixed Reality Presence and Collaboration teams will join the Teams organization.

Earlier this year another report from Insider claimed a HoloLens 3 device had been canceled in favor of a partnership with Samsung, and that Microsoft’s mixed reality efforts were plagued with “confusion and strategic uncertainty”.

Demeos Debuts AR Demo At AWE 2022

An augmented reality (AR) demo for tabletop hit Demeo debuted at the AWE 2022 event last week.

Developer Resolution Games showed the VR and flatscreen title running inside the Lenovo ThinkReality headset, powered by a Motorola phone. You can get a look at some through the lens shots in our wrap up video below from the Between Realities team.

Demeo AR Demo Revealed

As you can see from the footage, the AR experience works by anchoring the gameboard to a surface like a desk. You’re still able to see other characters surrounding the environment beside you. As Resolution Co-Founder and President Paul Brady explained, though, this isn’t the full game running inside AR.

“We’ve only had the consumer dev kit for about three weeks now so we got a little experience together to demo is so people can see the potential of what it might be like to have a tabletop RPG experience in AR,” Brady said.

In fact, Resolution isn’t officially announcing an AR port of Demeo for any headsets at the moment, but this certainly shows the possibilities of where the game could head in the future. We already think the VR game offers a best-in-class social experience.

This demo, meanwhile, came about as part of Resolution’s participation in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces initiative. Brady hinted that the program could enable Resolution to easily bring its projects to AR. “With their adoption and use of OpenXR and also their agnostic hardware approach it’s something that would make it easy for us to get it one place and make it available for lots of devices,” he said, “so we’re all about doing things in an agnostic approach like that.”

“Demeo’s average play time sessions are like two or three hours, so the ability to be in AR where you can see your environment around you too is an option that I think a lot of players will really appreciate in the future.”

Of course, there’s still plenty of other things in the works for Demeo right now. Stay tuned for the Upload VR Showcase this week at 8am PT on June 9 for a sneak peek at the game’s next hero.

Pico Neo 3 Link Games: Every VR App Available Today

What can you play on this Meta Quest 2 alternative? Find out with our list of Pico Neo 3 Link Games!

Specs-wise, the Pico Neo 3 Link is very similar to the Quest 2, using the same XR2 chip and employing two motion controllers. But how does the recently-launched headset’s library stack up to other offerings? Below, we’ve listed each of the 100+ Pico Neo 3 Link games available today, and also thrown in titles set to hit the headset soon.

What Games Are On Pico Neo Link 3?

Pico Neo Link 3 Games Title

Though Pico hasn’t yet released any big exclusive titles to compete with games like Resident Evil 4 VR, the platform has secured some of Quest 2’s best third-party games like After The Fall, Demeo and Superhot VR. But the company also has a more open store, with no App Lab alternative, meaning you can see some fantastic indie titles (and, in fairness, some not-so-fantastic ones) front and center. As a result, the library looks quite different to scrolling through the Quest story.

We’ll be updating this list as things go live so make sure to check back often!

Rez, Tetris Effect Dev ‘Very Interested’ In PSVR 2, Humanity Still MIA

The developer of VR-supported hits like Rez and Tetris Effect says he’s “very interested” in making a PSVR 2 game.

Speaking to VGC, Tetsuya Mizuguchi of Enhance hinted that he can’t “say anything very specific” about Sony’s new device just yet, but is “thinking about how we can push VR, so we’re very interested in new hardware and how we’re looking to make VR games better. We’re very interested in the PSVR 2.”

Producer Mark MacDonald, meanwhile, suggested that Tetris Effect itself is still not on platforms that the studio would like it to be on. Could we possibly see the game come to PS5 with PSVR 2 support? We thought the game was a masterful take on a classic that made for a rich VR experience, so we’d certainly welcome a high fidelity port.

Enhance is also currently helping work on Humanity, a unique experience involving thousands of people in crowds walking around levels. It’s still not clear exactly how the game is played but it was initially confirmed for PS4 with PSVR support. The project’s been heavily delayed with no mention of it in this week’s coverage; could we possibly see a jump to PS5 and PSVR 2?

We’ll keep a close eye on the situation but we’re not likely to hear more until Sony itself is ready to give away more PSVR 2 details. Last week we saw a smattering of new games announced for the headset, but no confirmation of a release date just yet.

What Tetsuya Mizuguchi games would you like to see on PSVR 2? Let us know in the comments below!
