Vampires Meet Web3 in Kongregate’s Blood Vessels This Year

Mobile game developer and publisher Kongregate is well-known thanks to its online gaming platform Kongregate.com but the company has designs for the growing Web3 sector. This week sees the reveal of Blood Vessels, a vampire-themed community storytelling experience due to arrive later in 2022.

Created by Electric Visions, Kongregate’s new blockchain-focused development team, Blood Vessels will feature playable vampire characters in the form of NFTs. Embodying these bloodsuckers, players will enter a sinister and dangerous RPG world set during the 19th Century at the Chicago World’s Fair. Players will then be encouraged to work together to uncover the mysteries hidden in the city’s streets whilst deciding whether to coexist, hide or threaten humanity.

To create this blockchain-powered title Electric Visions has partnered with ImmutableX, an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution offering a decentralized ecosystem with gas-free minting and trading for developers to deploy.

“I love that Blood Vessels embodies Kongregate’s community-driven roots,” said Michelle Shaw, Chief Blockchain Operations Officer at Kongregate in a statement. “Not only was the game a passion project created by our team during COVID to stay connected, but it also blurs the line between the game and the community, giving players control over their own experience in a way that has never been done before. I’m proud to say that Blood Vessels is unlike anything Kongregate has ever developed and I can’t wait to see players’ reactions and how the story develops.”

Each NFT vampire will have its own gameplay attributes and look, such as rare vampiric mutations like Necromantic Transfusion or Cell Duplication to aid players. NFT ownership will also grant players “exclusive access to VIP Discord channels” where they’ll be able to talk with the development team, see the roadmap and vote on future content releases.

“This is an incredibly exciting time to be a developer, working with forward-thinking green partners like ImmutableX that ensure our NFTs are scalable, secure, fully transparent, and most importantly, gas-free & carbon neutral,” adds Max Murphy, Chief Technology Officer at Kongregate. “As a long time gamer, I appreciate both the permanence that web3 games give players but also the amount of transparency it gives the community. With Blood Vessels, we really want players & the larger community to have a voice in what the game becomes.”

Blood Vessels will begin early sign-ups this May with those NFT vampires going on sale in Q2. You can signup for the Blood Vessels Discord here and for further updates, keep reading gmw3.
