Indeed Report Finds VR/AR Job Postings Increase by 1314%

Every Sunday VRFocus publishes The VR Job Hub, a weekly listing of the best vacancies in the virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) industries. Recently, one of the biggest job sites in the world, Indeed, released a report on the gaming industry, revealing a growing surge in VR/AR jobs and searches for them.

Indeed VR/AR Metro Area

As the industry has grown so naturally so has the need to find suitable candidates. Since 2014 Indeed has found that the share of job postings per million for AR and VR roles has increased by 1314.44%, while job searches have increased by 951.89% in the same timeframe. Most recently over the last year (Feb 18 – Feb 19), the site reports that the share of job postings per million roles has increased by 21.86%, but job searches have by comparison decreased by 13.48%.

For those interested in a job role within the industry, a good place to be based isn’t the west coast, instead, it’s North Carolina, with the state home to the most vacancies in the US at 9.5%, located in Charlotte and Raleigh (where Epic Games is based).

One of the more interesting stats to come out of the report relates to searches involving internships. While not every company offers such positions, there are plenty of people out there looking for those that do with searches for AR/VR internships up 1,220% in the last five years.

The report states that: “2019 will be an interesting year for the gaming industry. Esports and AR/VR remain prime areas to watch, with plentiful opportunities on the horizon. What’s more, we see an increasing number of opportunities available in parts of the country that previously had few, meaning job seekers no longer need to move to coastal tech hubs to pursue their dreams.”

While this is certainly good news for those seeking a way into the VR/AR industry, the report is only for the US, meaning its just the tip of the iceberg.
