Beyond Medusa’s Gate is Ubisoft’s Second Location-Based VR Experience, Arriving May 2019

Unlike many big videogame studios, Ubisoft has clearly embraced virtual reality (VR) with a variety of immersive titles both for home use as well as location-based entertainment (LBE). Having previously created Assassin’s Creed Origins: Escape the Lost Pyramid Ubisoft Blue Byte has announced its latest LBE experience, Beyond Medusa’s Gate.

Beyond Medusa’s Gate is the second location-based VR escape room experience from the studio based in the Assassin’s Creed universe, set in the re-creation of Ancient Greece from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

A cooperative videogame design for between two to four players, they’re challenged to find a way out of a vast Aegean coastal cave where the legendary ship of the Argonauts is anchored within 60 minutes. Each game starts by players choosing their own character which can then be customised using Ancient Greek accessories. Players then have to work together to solve various brain-teasing puzzles and riddles.

“Ubisoft’s Escape Games are tapping into two popular and growing entertainment trends—combining escape rooms and location-based VR in highly immersive, one-of-a-kind experiences,” said Cyril Voiron, Executive Producer for Ubisoft’s Escape Games in a statement. “Beyond Medusa’s Gate continues the legacy of our game design and storytelling expertise, pushing the Escape Room experience category with memorable state-of-the-art VR experiences that go beyond what is physically possible.”
