Gaze-Controlled VR Adventure Arca’s Path Reveals Release Date

The pastel-and-watercolour environments of Arca’s Path VR have been intriguing fans of virtual reality (VR) since they were first unveiled at E3 earlier this year. Now developer Dream Reality Interactive and publisher Rebellion have revealed just how long there is to wait until those unusual environments can be properly explored.

Arca’s Path is unusual in the respect that a controller is not needed, and instead the game world is navigated through use of gaze control, where the player’s avatar will move depending on where the player is looking as they attempt to navigate the increasingly treacherous levels.

The title is based around physics-based puzzles, where the player is embarking on a quest to help a young woman (the titular Arca) back to her home reality. The developers at Dream Reality Interactive said that much of the visuals were inspired by graphic novels, which further drove the team towards a visual approach to storytelling, with minimal text or dialogue.

“The team have worked together to build this simple, accessible game mechanic,” said Dr Dave Ranyard, CEO of developer Dream Reality Interactive. “We wanted to make something that was just really engaging, that everybody could play.”

Arca’s Path is available for playable demonstrations at EGX 2018 in the ‘Rezzed’ area. EGX will run from 20th-23rd September, 2018 at the NEC in Birmingham, UK. Dream Reality Interactive will also be hosting a panel on VR during today’s afternoon session.

Arca’s Path is due to be released on PlayStation VR, Steam VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Windows Mixed Reality and Samsung Gear VR on 4th December, 2018. Publisher Rebellion have also confirmed that the title will also be on Viveport for the HTC Vive Focus.
