Virtual Whisky With The Macallan Experience

Whisky has formed a cornerstone of Scottish culture for many, many years, and many historical distilleries are set in beautiful locations, such as the Macallan Distillery in Speyside. Many whisky fans never get the chance to experience their favourite wee dram in its natural habitat of Scotland, but soon they might have a chance to at least visit virtually.

Easter Elchies Estate in Speyside, Scotland has been the home of the Macallan since 1824, and, just in time for National Scotch Day on 27th July, a new virtual reality (VR) experience will let people in New York take a virtual journey to visit the distillery.

The Macallan Distillery Experience has been designed as an interactive, 4D multi-sensory group experience that takes guests on a journey through the life of a Single Malt. Users can choose a path to explore, which will take them on an exploration of the distillery and the process of making the famous Single Malt.

Samantha Leotta, Brand Director of The Macallan, said: “We’re proud to celebrate the opening of The Macallan’s breathtaking new distillery and visitor experience in Scotland and exciting new era of innovation by unveiling this immersive installation in New York City. Participants can explore the new distillery as if they were really there, and choose their own path to learn more about the iconic estate, history and heritage of The Macallan and its unrivaled whisky-making process. This journey was created so participants can be virtually transported to Speyside and experience the sights, sounds and scents of our new home.”

Earlier this year, Macallan unveiled a new distillery and visitor experience, and the development of the VR experience forms part of the company’s initiative to let more people be transported to one of the homes of whisky, including features such as wind and scent diffusion technology to make the experience more immersive.
