Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) launched virtual reality (VR) support for the WipEout Omega Collection a couple of months ago, bringing high speed racing to the PlayStation VR. Today, SIE has announced a free demo for all PlayStation 4 owners, allowing them to sample the iconic racer before purchase.
The US PlayStation Blog has announced that the WipEout Omega Collection demo is available today, whilst the EU PlayStation Blog has said the demo will roll out tomorrow for European players.
The demo includes the traditional Feisar ship, and the new Feisar VR ship, both playable on two different tracks as single races, the blinding sunset of Vineta K from Wipeout HD, and the stomach churning vertical drops and jumps of Altima from Wipeout 2048.
While videogames such as Gran Turismo Sport only let players access part of the title in VR, WipEout Omega Collection is fully playable from start to finish with PlayStation VR. As an added treat three new VR exclusive ships in HD, Fury and 2048 classes have been included.
The PlayStation Blogs recommend that: “For new players we’d recommend the default ‘Lock Camera To Cockpit’ controls. This ensures the most comfortable ride. For seasoned VR players, why not give ‘Lock Camera to Pilot’ a go where you can experience what it would be like to drive an AG craft in real life. You’ll literally feel every twist and turn as you move with the ship, and yes, when you barrel roll you can spin 360 degrees.”
For VRFocus’ European readers who have to wait another 24 hours why not check out the gameplay video we recorded in the 2048 mode and piloting the Feisar ship in its classic yellow and blue livery, racing through the Empire Climb track.
