The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has come to the conclusion that one of the best ways to promote tourism to Thailand is by using a virtual reality (VR) experience. The experience has been created to show what visitors can expect from the country.
The VR experience will showcase much of the unique culture and heritage of Thailand, such as showing a Thai boxing ring or a display of how silk is woven into traditional Thai costumes.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, the Governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand stated: “TAT presented through a visual in Virtual Reality (VR) system. The Amazing VR consists of three main narrative representations which represent prosperity in Thai cultural heritage and uniqueness in Thai way of living known by public globally.”
The boxing segment of the VR experience represents the Thai tradition of martial arts and also shows a traditional Thai boxing dance. The second part of the VR showcase is intended as an exploration of Thai textiles and culture, showing how a silk threat becomes a rich costume.
The final segment of the VR experience tells the story of the Thai rice, which is depicted as something akin to the lifeblood of the country, providing nourishment to everyone. The VR experience shows how rice gets from the field to the plate and even demonstrates for Jasmine rice can be cooked.
“Our team was very determined during the production of Amazing VR to encourage tourists to experience the journey in Thailand through a new format of presentation providing more sensorial impact to audience. When viewing this film with a device set called Head-Mounted Display: HMD, viewers will be able to experience it through the sensation as if they were the main character of the film just like they visit Thailand by themselves. We definitely hope that Amazing VR will attract more international tourists to become interested and make a trip and sense this impressive experience in Thailand by themselves, and also to activate Thai tourism industry continually,” Mr.Yuthasak said.
The Amazing Thailand VR Experience can be found on Steam for the HTC Vive, where is can be downloaded for free. VRFocus will continue to bring you news on new and upcoming VR experiences.
