Augmented Reality Checks In To Social Title Hotel Hideaway

Finnish development studio Sulake have announced that its popular mobile title Hotel Hideway will be getting some augmented reality (AR) features thanks to the new capabilities of Apple’s ARKit.

Hotel Hideaway is a socially-oriented 3D mobile title with RPG elements. Users can create an avatar, go on quests and interact with other players from around the world, now with some added AR features.

Users can collect or purchase clothing and accessories to customise their avatars, meet other players in the public rooms and discover how to do particular emotes, gestures and dance moves by using the ‘dance mat’ style control scheme.

With the AR update, users can enter a special ‘AR Room’ where players can pull their avatars into the real world to chat and dance alongside up to 40 other players in real-time, which the development team creates one of the most social experiences available today.

“Bringing augmented reality to Hotel Hideaway opens up the gameplay experience, where real world environments are merged with experiences made in the game,” said Simo Piispanen, game lead on Hotel Hideaway. “Hotel Hideaway players can play wherever they are, whether on the beach, at a cafe, or at home – they’ll always be creating infinite gameplay possibilities.”

Hotel Hideaway has a player base of over 300,000 active players, many of whom will be able to dive right in to the new AR features, in addition to engaging with the existing social features, taking on quests or exploring the hotel hubworld to discover secrets and joining tribes to take on daily tasks for rewards.

Hotel Hideaway is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, though the AR features are currently only available in the iOS version.
