The new trailer, shown off during the Unreal Engine 4 keynote at the Game Developer Conference a new trailer was shown off that showcased a number of features the engine has.
Among the many powerful and interesting features that the Unreal Engine 4 comes packed with, including visual scripting, full source code access, support for large scale multiplayer titles, robust workflows for asset and world building and the latest in rendering technology and performance. The Unreal Engine 4 also comes packed with plenty of tools and support for the creation of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) titles.
One of the biggest draws for content creators is the wide range of platforms that the Unreal Engine 4 now supports including the recently announced support for Magic Leap. Other platforms for VR, AR and MR that are supported including Oculus, Gear VR, HTC Vive, Daydream, PlayStation VR and both ARKit and ARCore. With a unified content pipeline and workflow developers are able to take the same approach to development regardless of the platform enabling rapid development, prototyping and deployment.
Unreal Engine 4 is also able to delver outstanding visual VR experiences all while running at a smooth 90 frames per second (FPS), making it one of the highest-performance engines available at the minute. Developers are even able to build their projects for VR within virtual space itself, meaning they have precise control over every element of the Unreal Engine 4 all while in VR. This, along with all the other parts of the engine which is available to download for free, is empowering content creators around the global to use Unreal Engine 4 to build their next project.
Part of the trailer also featured some footage of the VR title Robo Recall, which was developed by Epic Games using the Unreal Engine 4, to demonstrate the physics-drive animation feature of the engine. VRFocus’ Senior Staff Writer Peter Graham reviewed Robo Recall saying: “Robo Recall elicits such a high standard that future FPS titles will be measured by it, and should be considered a killer app for Oculus Touch. And the best bit of all, Touch users get Robo Recall for free, so what’s there to moan about?”
