With Sony Interactive Entertainment SIE recently revealing an estimated 2 million PlayStation VR’s had been sold worldwide it’s no surprise when virtual reality (VR) developers say they’re going to support the headset with either a new title or a port. Today Bit Planet Games has done just that releasing its arcade flying simulator Ultrawings.
Originally released for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift before seeing a mobile port to Samsung Gear VR in the summer, the studio first revealed the title would be coming to PlayStation VR in July before teasing it during SIEE’s Paris Games Week press conference.
Ultrawings is an open-world flying simulation that’s been built specifically for VR players. It features three different aircraft to pilot which can be unlocked by completing missions to earn money, as well as buying new airports across three separate islands. Players will be able to shoot at balloons with aircraft mounted guns, with the most skilled pilots being able to use a separate handgun whilst flying their vehicles. They’ll also be able to snap photos, try their hand at scoring points by flying through rings or just practice for a perfect landing.
Players will be able to use a DualShock 4 controller or for an even more immersive flight experience, they’ll want to use PlayStation Moves so they’ll be able grab and manipulate the flight stick, buttons, and switches. Bit Planet Games estimates it’ll take an average pilot around 15 hours just to complete the missions and possibly double or even triple that to get a gold medal on all of them.
Ultrawings can be found on the PlayStation Store for $24.99 USD. To celebrate the launch Bit Planet Games has released a brand new trailer showcasing the experience in all its colourful glory. For any further updates from the studio on forthcoming projects, keep reading VRFocus.
