Oculus Rift Price Dropped Again Ahead of Christmas

Everyone’s always after a good deal when buying products, they’ll either haggle for it or when it comes to online shopping wait for a suitable sale. Those of you who’ve been interested in virtual reality (VR) but have yet to purchase a headset have been spoilt for choice this year with plenty of discounts to be had. Recently Oculus held a Black Friday promotion dropping  the Oculus Rift down to $349 USD/ £349 GBP  from $399/£399 and today the company has another hardware offer.

Another limited time deal, you can now pickup an Oculus Rift with Touch for $379/$369 until 20th December 2017. Whilst that’s not quite as good as before, money off is still money off, and that means you’ve got more to spend on content. Not forgetting of course that the bundle still includes Lucky’s Tale, Medium, Toybox, Quill, Dead and Buried, Dragon Front and Robo Recall.

The deal is available directly through Oculus.com, while US customers can also find the offer at Newegg, Best Buy and Amazon. UK consumers can make use of an even better deal thanks to Amazon if they’re quick. As VRFocus reported yesterday, Amazon UK still has an offer going on that keeps Oculus Rift at the original Black Friday price of £349. There’s no date on when this price will be cancelled.

This year has seen Oculus get far more aggressive when it comes to pricing in a bid to close the gap between rivals HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. Prior to the summer Oculus Rift with Touch would have cost you $598/£598 – it was even more in 2016. Now the standard price is $399/£399, putting the headset in closer direct competition with market leader PlayStation VR.

Oculus hasn’t released any sales figures for its headset, but Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) did recently release  estimated sales figures that show PlayStation VR cumulatively sold through more than 2 million units to consumers worldwide as of 3rd December, 2017.

If you’re tempted by an Oculus Rift don’t forget that the Oculus Winter Sale is now on via the Oculus Store, offering plenty of software discounts to build up that library. As always, VRFocus will continue to bring you the latest VR offers from around the world.
