The PlayStation Experience (PSX) officially begins tomorrow featuring the biggest selection of videogames from around the world, including virtual reality (VR) content. This evening Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has begun its livestream showcasing the latest titles coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and of course PlayStation VR. For the head-mounted display (HMD) SIE has unveiled futuristic racer Wipeout VR.
Wipeout is the iconic racing title that first appeared on the original PlayStation – and one of the early titles attributed to its success – seeing several sequels over the preceding years. Now PlayStation VR owners will be able to dive into the high-speed anti-gravity vehicles and race at neck braking speeds down impossibly twisting, winding tracks.
Wipeout VR won’t be a standalone, dedicated VR experience, rather a VR option will be provided in a free update to Wipeout Omega Collection that’ll arrive at some point in 2018.
Announcing such a big title for PlayStation VR will be another boon for the popular headset, with the last few weeks seeing the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR and DOOM VFR, This past week also saw SIE release sales figures for the headset and PlayStation 4, with estimated sales figures showing that PlayStation VR cumulatively sold through more than 2 million units to consumers worldwide as of 3rd December, 2017.
Expect there to be plenty of titles being announced this weekend for PlayStation VR, as SIE has previously said there’s more than 130 videogames and other content currently in development for the headset, all due to be released by the end of 2018.
