If you’re a fan of classic animated series, giant robots and outer space then we’ve got some good news for you. Especially if you also happen to own an HTC Vive. As DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles is now available for users of HTC Vive’s Viveport service.

An episodic tie-in to the DreamWorks Television series for Netflix, and the latest revival of the Voltron series that first aired during the mid-eighties, a PlayStation VR version is already out as well as a standard Steam release which has support for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. In the title, fans are able to step into the Voltron universe and become a part of the team. Taking on a number of mini challenges ranging from unlocking a console through a series of puzzles and by evading waves of enemies.

In DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles, you follow the character of Lance who has stumbled upon the ruins of a lost race of aliens.  Unfortunately that discovery also happens to be rather deep within enemy space, and his misfortunes mount when he releases a seemingly unstoppable force that could be a threat to just about everyone.

DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles is set loosely in the second season of DreamWorks’ Voltron: Legendary Defender, and acts as a side story for all of our characters.” Explained the title’s Lead Designer Dan Kingdom to the HTC Vive blog. “We don’t reference any major plotlines from the show itself, so even if you’ve never watched an episode of the show, you can jump in and enjoy it. However, if you really know your Voltron lore, then there are some very deliberate character moments and dialogue that you should be able to pick up on, along with a brief character cameo from the show.”

There’s also plenty for those keen on the details according to Kingdom. “We’ve also gone to great lengths to recreate as many of the small visual details as possible from the iconic locations, so whether you’re standing inside the Blue Lion cockpit or on the bridge of the Castle of Lions, there’s always something to see no matter where you look.”
