VR Survival Horror Title Reficul Coming to Steam

The rise of virtual reality (VR) has offered a number of unique opportunities to small, independent developers, allowing small studios to become known to a wider audience. Such is the case with UK-based developers Mad About Games Studios, who have today announced that its VR survival horror title Reficul will be coming soon to Steam.

Reficul has been designed entirely with VR in mind. Focussing on a single-player experience and using more psychological horror and creepy ambience to produce its atmosphere, Reficul draws on elements from several genres, such as the perma-death idea of a Roguelike, the realistic weapon handling of a military shooter as well as other features such as a real-time inventory, and a choice of locomotion options.

“We love Horror games but wanted to steer away from the traditional scripted Jump-Scare horror game and concentrate more on the action in an apocalyptic setting.” said Lead Designer Shaun Williams. “There are many horror games coming onto the market but most apocalypse games are based on zombies or aliens. We wanted to adopt a new type of apocalypse with a very different enemy. With the incredible experience and talent of our small indie team, we are thrilled to offer what we believe is a fun and eerie action-based survival horror game with lots to explore and freedom for the player in this dark new world.”

The developers say that the motion, locomotion and inventory systems have been designed with VR and motion controls in mind, and have been created to be simple and intuitive to pick up. Mad About Games will be bringing Reficul to HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in time for Halloween.
