Meet and Work in VR With Cisco Spark

There are a growing number of ways to socialise in virtual reality (VR) which tend to be on the fun side of things, but what if you wanted to have an actual business meeting in VR? Well technology giant Cisco has entered the fray with an adaption of its Cisco Spark software, allowing user to meet, discuss projects and interact in a virtual world.

Currently available as an early access app for Oculus Rift with Touch, one of the main features in Cisco Spark in VR is its full integration with the standard version of Cisco Spark, so that all files, whiteboards, and features are readily available to VR users – you do need a Cisco Spark account which is free.

“Cisco Spark in VR is another way to access Cisco Spark content, just like the apps we have for the web, Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It runs on the Cisco Spark platform, using the same APIs, and is tightly integrated with the Cisco Spark application,” said Dr. Jens Meggers is Cisco’s Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Cloud Collaboration Technology Group (CCTG) in a blog posting. “You can grab, open, share, and present files – using just your hands. Using VR enhances the current (two-dimensional) collaboration environment, like being able to interact with a 3D model of a car engine, or stepping into an architectural design and see the building before any concrete is poured.

Because of this integration, businesses that own a Cisco Spark Board will be able to connect with user in VR so that whoever draws on the white all users will still be able to see it, all in real time.

At this stage Cisco Spark in VR is still experimental. As development continues VRFocus will keep you updated.
