If you failed to miss it, last month Netflix released its live action version of popular anime Death Note. While the movie has certainly had its fair share of mixed reviews the company has now released a promotional 360-degree short, Death Note: The VR Experience.
The Death Note story revolves around a lad called Light who one day comes across the titular paperback. The notebook has the power to kill anyone whose name is written within its pages, by summoning a death god called Ryuk. Just like the anime, the new movie has Light trying to cleanse the world of evil by killing lots of bad guys, everything doesn’t go according to plan however due to a detective called L.
The VR experience takes place solely in Light’s bedroom, with Ryuk popping up occasionally and one of the death scenes from the movie making an appearance. As with any 360-degree video you can look anywhere with Netfilx using standard techniques to draw your eye in the right direction, such as a blink of light or a sound.
You can watch the video below, or if you’ve got a VR headset like Google Daydream head to the YouTube app, put on some headphones and enjoy.
