Special Forces VR Reveals Steam Release Date

Upcoming tactical virtual reality (VR) shooter Special Forces VR has had the date of its release on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift confirmed. News on a date for the expected PlayStation VR release is still awaited.

Developer VR Visio previously said that a closed beta for Special Forces VR would be taking place over September, 2017, the feedback from which would be incorporated into the title before its release at the end of the year. The release date is now listed for the Steam VR version as 22nd December, 2017.

Offering cross-platform multiplayer so PC users and console gamers can both play together in the same virtual environment when the PlayStation VR version is eventually released. The title is also designed to be compatible with a large range of VR peripherals, including haptic gloves, haptic suits, gun peripherals, multi-directional locomotion devices, and the PlayStation VR version will have support for the PlayStation Aim controller.

There is no single-player mode, but a multitude of multi-player variants, such as Team deathmatch, free-for-all, rescue the hostage and co-operative scenarios. A free locomotion system is being used instead of the teleportation mechanic popular in many other VR titles. The developers at VR Visio say they have used several techniques to ensure players do not suffer for simulation sickness.

VR Visio have been keen to engage with the community about the title, and have previously release behind-the-scenes videos to demonstrate development on Special Forces VR.
