Puzzle titles seems to do particularly well in virtual reality (VR). Perhaps the simple, intuitive nature of the puzzle genre attracts developers as they learn how work with VR as VR platforms mature. CubeWorks aims to sit alongside titles such as Statik and Bounce in the VR puzzle genre.
CubeWorks was created by developer TinMoon studios to offer a fully three-dimensional approach to puzzle solving. Using a unique custom interface, the player needs to learn to study and manipulate their surroundings in order to advance through the stages.
The title puts the player inside a secret facility called ‘Quantum Cube’ where they are challenged to solve complex spatial puzzles using little more than virtual hands and brain power. CubeWorks has been designed to offer a variety of different challenges, from fast-paced rounds that challenge dexterity to slower brain-teasing areas.
Now abilities, conditions and ‘pieces’ can be unlocked as players progress through the levels, though what the pieces are far or what they create is unknown at this point. There are 20 stages across five levels, all located within the cyberpunk confines of the Quantum Cube facility.
The title is currently in Steam Early Access for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The developers are hoping to have the title available for full launch by the end of 2017. It is priced at £18.99 (GBP), a price that is expected to rise with the release of the full release version.
