As you like as not know by now virtual reality (VR) and indeed it’s technological cousins augmented and mixed reality is not just about games – despite what some people might like to say. It’s a about a great many things besides that, and a topic that we often discuss on VRFocus is the continued developments within the area of health. Be that in the field of medicine and professional healthcare or alternatively personal health and betterment. We’ve even touched on how the technology can potentially be used to help mental health.
The use of VR as a tool for personal wellness continues with a new portal courtesy of a San Fransisco based company appropriately entitled RE:NEW, launched by RenewVR.com – itself a product of NewPathVR.com. The portal collates VR experiences from Google Cardboard, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR, PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive with healthcare information, breathing exercises and other healthcare advice, details of events, podcasts and more.
The applications are as you would expect, bringing together the likes of Cubicle Ninjas’ Guided Meditation VR, Escapist Games’ Star Chart VR and a number of 360 degree videos. Although the selection of some titles such as Thumper and Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live are, perhaps, slightly more curious additions.
Further information about the RE:NEW can be found on its website. VRFocus will bring you more information about VR’s use as a healthcare tool in the near future.
