Fans of British indie studio Coatsink Software and its mobile titles such as Esper/Esper 2 and A Night Sky will likely be looking forward to the developer’s next project for Samsung Gear VR, Augmented Empire. Today Coatsink has announced the voice talent roster for the upcoming cyberpunk virtual reality (VR) role-playing game (RPG), building a tradition of quality participants in its projects.
Four actors have been revealed: Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black, Star Trek Voyager); Doug Cockle (The Witcher Series); Garrick Hagon (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Horizon: Zero Dawn) and making his return having been in Esper 2 is Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Paul).
Featuring a simple look-and-click control scheme, whereby players control characters though top-down worlds, putting them in cover, moving them to flanking positions, and shooting enemies, Augmented Empire takes players to an isolated neo-noir city, set on an island called New Savannah. This futuristic metropolis has a society divided into three tiers by the ‘Citizen Grade System’, with citizens deemed of high value to society living an opulent lifestyle at the soaring heights of the city, while those seen as less savoury have to live their lives in the squalid depth’s.
“With a strong focus on story and deep but accessible gameplay, we wanted to give Gear VR gamers an extraordinary experience. We’re thrilled with the calibre of talent involved in Augmented Empire” said Coatsink CEO Tom Beardsmore in a statement.
VRFocus got to preview the videogame during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2017, saying: “Even from this short demo the whole feel of Augmented Empire felt taught and engaging. Nothing glitched or suddenly didn’t function, and the mix between action and strategy was spot on.”
Augmented Empire will launch exclusively on Samsung Gear VR this summer along with Gear VR controller support. Checkout the two exclusive screenshots (above/below) and for any further updates from Coatsink Software, keep reading VRFocus.
