Fallout 4 VR Coming to Headsets Later This Year

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 Bethesda made the surprise announcement that it was working on a virtual reality (VR) version of its hit open-world videogame Fallout 4. During that years show the company showcased its progress in turning the much loved title into a VR experience, with short demos available on the show floor using the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD). A year on, today Bethesda has announced that Fallout 4 VR will be launching later this year.

Bethesda will be releasing Fallout 4 VR in 2017 – platforms are yet to be confirmed, though Bethesda’s conference included a HTC Vive image, so we can safely assume it’ll be available for the HTC Vive, if not the Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR.

The announcement isn’t too much of a surprise as last month VRFocus reported that Bethesda’s Vice President of PR, Pete Hines, announced the post-apocalyptic role-playing game (RPG) would be making an appearance during the press conference.

VR announcements have been decidedly lacking so far in the E3 2017 press conferences. Electronic Arts (EA) held the first event on Saturday, with a small hint of VR coming by way of a new division called SEED. While Microsoft’s press conference a short while ago had the official unveiling of Xbox One X (Project Scorpio), but the company didn’t make any mention of it’s VR support – like it did at E3 2016.

While the press conferences have so far lacked loads of VR news, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) showcase tomorrow is likely to feature some good morsels of information relating to PlayStation VR. And there’s the fact that the main E3 event itself is set to include plenty of VR exhibitors.
