German technology company MAGIX are looking to expand into the virtual reality (VR) sector and are planning to launch its own suite of VR products in 2018. The firm has also acquired VR software company Simplitec.
MAGIX is planning to significantly increase its presence in he VR sector. The company has already been working with Intel and Microsoft on VR and mixed reality (MR) projects such as Microsoft’s HoloLens headset. MAGIX has recently acquired Dresden-based software company Simplitec in order to increase its reach into the VR market. Simplitec are now working under MAGIX auspices on development of VR software products.
The upcoming VR suite from MAGIX will contain the new ‘MAGIX VR Maker’ along with MAGIX video software. The software has been designed to allow users to independently create VR applications for Web VR and VR mobile apps using 360-degree video and panoramic or 360-degree still photography. MAGIX plan to have the suite act as a complete solution allowing users to create and share visual worlds created with VR in mind.
The expansion into VR by MAGIX is in response to reports indicating that the VR market, particularly the VR video and 360-degree video sector, will continue to grow. According to a report by Digi-Capital, the VR video market alone will be worth over $6 billion (USD) by the year 2020.
MAGIX have produced multimedia software and applications for digital editing and archiving of video, music and photographic content for over 20 years. The upcoming VR suite will be the company’s first foray into creating software specifically for VR use.
