Record Immersive Video no Matter the Weather with Garmin’s 5K VIRB 360 Camera

If you hadn’t already noticed 360-degree cameras are arriving at a growing rate. Today, Garmin International Inc. has announced its entry into the field with the VIRB 360 camera, a rugged waterproof device that’s been designed to be usable in most conditions.

Able to capture high-quality 5.7K video at 30 frames-per-second (FPS), the VIRB 360 comes with four built-in microphones, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. Featuring a one-hour battery life, the camera can take 15 megapixel spherical photos using a variety of photo modes such as single capture, burst shooting, and time lapse.

With a suite of sensors, the VIRB 360’s party trick is a customisable, augmented reality (AR) data overlay option.

The VIRB 360 is compatible with microSD memory cards of up to 128GB, and Garmin offers a freely downloadable app for the camera, on both mobile and desktop to edit, stabilize, share and add data overlays to any VIRB 360 video content. For ease of use it has one-touch button controls, voice control options to start and stop recordings, snap photos and more. On top of all this the VIRB 360 features livestream options for posting to YouTube or Facebook Live.

“The VIRB 360 lets you relive personal experiences and share them with your friends – from a different point of view, every single time,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales in a statement. “VIRB 360 owners will no longer need to worry about trying to capture the perfect angle or setting up the perfect shot. The camera’s easy-to-use feature set will make even the most inexperienced users look like experts.”

All of this does come at a price though. The VIRB 360 will set customers back $799.99 USD when it launches next month. For the latest 360-degree camera news, keep reading VRFocus.
