Megadimension Neptunia VIIR Receives Summer Launch in Japan

Back in March, Japanese developer Compile Heart announced Megadimension Neptunia VIIR for PlayStation 4, with the addition of a virtual reality (VR) element for PlayStation VR. Originally given a rough 2017 release, a Japanese release date of 24th August has been revealed.

The news comes from the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation, reports Gematsu, with Japanese gamers able to get their hands on a limited edition version that will include a specially illustrated box, scrapbook, stickers, pouch, and Tsuntsun Shichau CD.

Originally unveiled during the Dengeki Game Festival 2017, Megadimension Neptunia VIIR’s VR elements seem to allow players to uncover more of the story behind the videogames characters with specific ‘Scenario VR Events’ taking place as they progress through the main campaign.

Additionally, ‘Daily VR Events’ will take place, depicting the four characters (Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert). The Neptunia series features anime girls called Goddesses, which are essentially videogame consoles. In predecessor Megadimension Neptunia VII, there were three separate worlds to complete, each with its own story arc. Whether this will continue in the VR is unclear, but details released indicate living a daily life with the characters.

This is still a Japanese only title at present, but that’s not to say it may never get a wider release. Megadimension Neptunia VII saw a worldwide release in 2016, and the  latest title in the franchise, Cyberdimension Neptunia: Four Goddesses Online, will be getting a western release in Winter 2017.

If a western release does happen, VRFocus will let you know.
