VR Ghost Story Comes to Steam and Oculus Store with Seance: The Unquiet

Developer Holospark has released a preview for upcoming videogame/movie hybrid Seance: The Unquiet for free on Oculus Store and Steam that lets players experience a spooky haunted house.

The development team have used techniques pioneered in Hollywood movies for capturing an actors performance and combined it with the power and flexibility of Unreal Engine 4 creating a horror experience to present a ghost story in which a family confronts a tragedy from the past while trapped in a haunted house.

The full version will not be released until later in the year, but Holospark has released a five-minute preview which is free to download to give a taste of the experience to users of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The experience uses keyboard and mouse control, though some controller support has been implemented.

“We wanted to create a VR film that was immediately accessible and entertaining for the Netflix generation,” said Executive Producer John Scott Tynes. “But using our experience as video game developers, we are able to dynamically craft emotional, cinematic moments in response to the audience’s attention and movements.”

“Telling stories in this medium requires new tools and techniques,” said Art Director Bruce Sharp. “But fundamentally we’re making an entertaining and frightening film with great characters and real emotion, using the very latest technology.”

A firm date for the release of the experience has not yet been confirmed, but further updates will be made available on the official Steam page. You can watch the preview trailer video below.
