Ghost in the Shell Out Now for Oculus Rift and Gear VR

Today Ghost in the Shell fans will finally be able to jump into Major’s shoes as the virtual reality (VR) experience has now arrived for Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR.

Created in partnership between Oculus Studios, REWIND, Dreamworks, HERE BE DRAGONS and Paramount, Ghost in the Shell is an adaptation of the famous Japanese anime of the same name, following cyborg policewoman Major Kusanagi, played by Scarlett Johansson.

The experience is a deep dive into Major’s psyche as she explores her memories in search of her ghost, including Major’s dive from the rooftop and battles with geisha robots.

Complimenting the Ghost in the Shell film which released this week, the VR experience can be freely downloaded for Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR headsets. If you don’t have one of the head-mounted displays (HMDs) a 360-degree version is available via Facebook.

Paramount has been heavily promoting the film, releasing a teaser for the VR content only a couple of days ago. Prior to that the company had teamed up with YouCam to offer a range of augmented reality (AR) experiences for mobile.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Ghost in the Shell, reporting back with any further updates if they occur.
