Just over 10 years ago videogame veteran Tim Schafer and his studio Double Fine Productions launched platform adventure title Psychonauts. The team has confirmed a sequel in the form of Psychonauts 2, scheduled for release in 2018, but to bridge that gap the team has created a virtual reality (VR) version called Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin which can now be pre-ordered for PlayStation VR.
Fans can head to the PlayStation.Store to place their order prior to launch on 21st February. Those that do will be treated to a pre-order bonus, the original PlayStation 2 title Psychonauts. And if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber you’ll get a 10 percent discount, dropping the price from $19.99 USD to $17.99. Customers in other countries will have to check their regional stores for availability, currently the UK store doesn’t list the pre-order.
Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin continues the story from the previous videogame with players assume the role of Raz, a young psychic and member of the Psychonauts — an elite group of international psychic secret agents – although you don’t need to have played the original to follow what’s going on. A first-person adventure, players will use Raz’s various psychic powers – such as Clairvoyance, Telekinesis and Pyrokinesis – to manipulate the world, and solve puzzles, with the mission taking them straight into the heart of the Rhombus of Ruin.
To compliment the announcement Double Fine has released a new trailer for the experience which can be viewed below. For any further updates from the studio, keep reading VRFocus.
