Dave Ranyard, the former head of Sony London Studio, has announced the formation of a brand new studio focused on virtual reality (VR) development called Dream Reality Interactive.
Ranyard hasn’t formed Dream Reality on his own, as he’s joined by former Sony London teammates Richard Bates, Artemis Tsouflidou, Albert Bentall and John Foster, who were all part of PlayStation VR Worlds development for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation VR headset.
Dream Reality Interactive has so far stated its currently working on several projects and prototypes, building its own IP in addition to developing titles in partnership with other IP owners, across a variety of VR headsets.
“With the availability of a range of VR headsets the question is no longer IF virtual reality will be successful, it is WHEN and most importantly, HOW? None of us really knows the answer but after a fantastic 17 years at Sony, now feels like the right time to explore the possibilities. Going independent allows me to work across all platforms and that’s very liberating,” said Ranyard.
Back in September 2016 SIE announced there would be some major redundancies at London Studio as the developer had recently wrapped up development of PlayStation VR Worlds a few weeks before.
