Back in October VRFocus reported on visual effects studio Digital Domain partnering with Gyro AS and Warner Bros to live-stream the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Concert this month. Today the studio has announced the event will be headlined by Sting.
Now in its 23rd year, the concert will not only feature Sting but it’ll be hosted by American television personality Conan O’Brien, as well as acclaimed performers including Halsey, Icona Pop, Highasakite, Juanes and Marcus & Martinus.
“Our mission for the concert series is to utilize emerging technologies such as virtual reality to amplify the most prestigious award in the world, bringing the concert to life,” said Olav Njolstad, Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute. “To connect with the next generation of global citizens, we’re embracing new media to stay relevant with a broader and younger audience across borders. We welcome Digital Domain’s partnership and are certain they will be a vital and significant part of this initiative and others in the coming years.”
After the live-stream, 360-degree post-event footage and highlight videos will be available for on-demand viewing. All the content will be broadcast via the Nobel Peace Prize Concert’s #PeaceIsLoud 360° virtual reality app on Android and iOS, powered by Digital Domain, as well as from the Nobel Peace Prize Concert website, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube channel
“We are pleased to play an active role in sharing this prestigious event with the world and cannot imagine a more worthy application of our technology and creativity,” said Daniel Seah Chief Executive Officer, Digital Domain. “Working closely with our new partners, we are helping this event to achieve its goal of being the loudest voice for peace in the world. Technological innovation is bringing impactful events like these to passionate and increasingly connected audiences, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of these developments.”
