This festive season is lining up to be a good one for Star Wars fans with plenty of new content coming out. For film goers there’s the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and for gamers EA will be releasing the final expansion for Star Wars Battlefront, called Rogue One: Scarif tying into the film. There’s also the little matter of the virtual reality (VR) DLC, Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission. Now EA has announced when PlayStation VR owners will be able to get their hands on the content.
In a blog posting the publisher has revealed Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission will be available on 6th December, as free DLC for those that own the base videogame. The title gives players control of the iconic X-wing fighter, allowing would be pilots to brush up on their piloting skills, by carrying out an important mission for the Rebellion.
Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission was first unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June, and since then very little information has been released other than some teasing screenshots. With the new Star Wars Battlefront DLC so closely tied into the new film its likely the creators didn’t want to give too much away.
If you’ve not got the PlayStation VR then there’s always free experience Trials on Tatooine for HTC Vive by ILMxLAB. This offers a wholly different gameplay experience, putting players on the planet surface trying to repair the Millennium Falcon and getting to wield a lightsaber as Imperial forces come into attack.
That’s not all ILMxLAB has to offer on the VR front. The division of LucasFilm is also working on another Star Wars VR title, this time starring iconic villain, Darth Vader.
As VRFocus learns more about ILMxLAB’s VR projects we’ll bring you the latest details.
