Virtual reality (VR), and HTC/Valve’s head-mounted display the HTC Vive already has a number of shooters. Some shooters are of the straightforward traditional sort, whilst others are somewhat more abstract. Whilst the wave-shooter for VR is, of course, commonplace. Now another title can be added to VR’s growing library of titles, and one specifically designed for use with the HTC Vive.
Presented by Game Troopers – a VR-dedicated Spanish studio initially founded by Space Inch and Starloop Studios. Overkill VR throws you into a futuristic world where danger comes from all around you and it’s more important than ever to be aware of your surroundings. Taking on a leadership role you must take command of the resistance, leading them to success on the battlefield and vanquishing your enemies – no matter where they might be hiding, from the desert to the city and the heart of the industrial machinations.
Your efforts will be met with a different kind of resistance – and a different kind of brutality. As such you will need to become proficient in traditional shooter weapons, such as rifles, machine guns and the ever trusty shotgun as well as some more outlandish future-tech weapons.
Speaking on the launch, Game Troopers’ CEO Jesús Bosch commented: “With Overkill VR we pursued maximizing the capabilities of the HTC VIVE headset. Overkill VR is the first VR shooter made exclusively for HTC Vive which brings you the look and feel of future war.”
Overkill VR is available to buy for $19.99 (USD) on Steam, which matches its earlier Early Access price. A video of the title can also be found below. As for how the title fares in action, VRFocus will look to bring you a review of the game in the near future.
