In July developer Storm in a Teacup announced its forthcoming virtual reality (VR) title Lantern for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Today the studio has revealed that the videogame will arrive next week.
Designed as a relaxing journey through a stylised virtual world, where the player guides a flying lantern through a dull lifeless world that needs returning to its former self. As Storm in a Teacup describes: “Once upon a time, there was a very sad princess. She felt so unloved and unhappy that everything around her became grey and lifeless, and the entire land was deprived of colour and joy. Our fable begins when a single, lonely lantern was lit in a faraway village…”
Set across four East Asian-inspired worlds, each with its own theme and architecture, players fly the lantern to change the colour of the world as well as creating other effects, such as igniting other lamps, restoring animals to life and reactivating windmills.
Lantern will be released on both platforms on 15th, November 2016, via Steam, and to coincide with the announcement Storm in a Teacup has released a brand new trailer showcasing some gameplay footage.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Lantern, reporting back with any further updates.
