Disney to Collaborate with Oculus in Series of VR Experiences, Also Bringing Blade Runner With It

There’s nothing more promising than seeing major corporations join in on the investment into virtual reality (VR), and that is exactly what Disney is doing directly with Oculus, it comes of the Oculus Connect 3 keynote with Yelena Rachitsky, Creative Producer at Oculus, today.

Rachitsky built up the announcement after talking about the successes of Oculus during the year, including Henry‘s Emmy award: “We’ve been seeing the creativity and the craft of VR continue to elevate, so we plan on investing more into these unique experiences and on making Oculus a premier destination for this type of content, and here are just some of the ways we plan on doing just that. We are incredibly pleased to announce collaboration with Walt Disney Studios, one of the most recognisable names in storytelling.”

Oculus will be working with Disney to create a series of VR experiences based on some of their most well-known characters, and it is planned to launch later this year – along with most of the reveals that have happened throughout the event. “Oculus technology, mixed in with the magic and creativity of Disney, is going to set a higher bar for VR.”

In addition to Disney’s involvement with Oculus, Blade Runner will also be added to the mix. “We’re going to be working with Alcon Interactive to bring VR experiences based on the Blade Runner sequel to the Oculus Platform ahead of the film’s release in 2017.”
