Military Shooter Zero Caliber Shows Its Quality in New Gameplay Trailer

Developer XREAL Games have aimed to deliver to virtual reality (VR) users one of the most realistic military shooters on VR platforms. With the reveal of the new Zero Caliber gameplay trailer, users will get the chance to decide for themselves if the developer has hit the target.

The new gameplay trailer shows some of the alpha gameplay footage of the co-op mode, which is accompanied by a single-player campaign mode, both of which claim to offer a highly realistic FPS combat system.

Zero Caliber

The story is set in the USA in a dystopian future where pollution and micro-plastics has tainted most water supplies, making fresh drinking water one of the most valuable and highly sought after resources. A battle for control of these resources erupts between the remnants of the military forces, mercenaries and private armies and a plethora of religious cults, one of which is keeping a secret that could lead to the salvation of humanity.

Naturally the player is dumped into the middle of this and needs to work out how to survive, and perhaps even find a way to help the human race survive this ongoing disaster.

The gameplay trailer begins in a compound with a military-style helicopter hovering ominously overhead. It’s not clear if the helicopter is friend or foe, but enemies surround the player and are quickly shot down.

The player enters a secluded building to find an armoury of weapons and ammo. Selecting a gun, they emerge, shooting down more foes before ducking into cover. From there, they make their way across the compound, taking out enemies as they go before throwing a grenade into a bunker and taking out the stragglers.

The trailer then ends on a more humorous and light-hearted note, showing the player affectionately patting the head of a squad-mate like a loyal dog. The trailer is available to view below, and further coverage of Zero Caliber will be here on VRFocus.

Zero Caliber is one of the most promising VR shooters on the horizon. After we were mostly let down by Seeking Dawn recently and Firewall: Zero Hour only coming to PSVR, we set our sights on X-Real’s upcoming mixture of intense action and military realism to scratch that new shooter itch.

In Zero Caliber the developers have really gotten quite ambitious. Their previous game, A-Tech Cybernetic, which is still in development, caught us by surprise with its surprising polish, so we hope that attention to detail can carry over into Zero Caliber. This game is billed as a full-on VR shooter with a deeper than average campaign that’s fully playable in co-op. A bit like a modern military take on Farpoint with full campaign co-op multiplayer support.

Here’s some fresh gameplay footage:

Also this week the developers revealed on Steam that they’re currently taking sign ups for Alpha testers. It’s tentatively slated for August 10th and you can sign up here on Discord. After that testing phase, a free, public demo for Zero Caliber will be released presumably on the game’s Steam page.

We’re excited about this one, but for now we’ll remain just cautiously optimistic. The action in the trailer looks great, but it remains to be seen just how much of that happens during actual gameplay. If you’re curious as well, head over to the Discord and throw your name into the Alpha tester hat.

Let us know what you think of the game so far down in the comments below!

Military Co-Op Shooter Zero Caliber Aims for Success in September

While there are plenty of first-person shooters (FPS) for virtual reality (VR) headsets, the amount of decent military style experiences are fairly limited. XREAL Games, the team behind A-Tech Cybernetic, has announced its second title which looks to tackle this problem head on with Zero Caliber.

Zero Caliber

Zero Caliber looks to offer one of the most realistic military style FPS experiences yet for VR headsets, combining a story-driven single-player campaign (which can also be played in co-op) with a realistic combat system.

The story revolves around a dystopian United States in the not too distant future where fresh drinking water has become Earth’s most precious commodity thanks to pollution and an abundance of micro-plastics. So naturally the military tried to keep control, and failed. Then mercenaries and private armies popped up to seize control, and of course a bunch of religious cults. The most powerful of which is an organisation called the ‘Tlalokii’, who are harboring a secret that could save humanity. Of course you’re stuck in the middle of all this and its down to your trusty gun to sort things out.

“Our goal is to develop a realistic military FPS for Virtual Reality headsets,” states the team, so all the weapons have been accurately modeled on their real-life counter parts, including their reload mechanics. And so has the gameplay, with players needing to find cover, duck, crouch, sneak, peek around corners, and clear obstacles all with real-life movements.

The videogame will be released in two parts. First of all there will be the Steam Early Access launch on 13th September  which will feature all of Zero Caliber’s core mechanics such as physics based interaction, customizable weapons with various attachments. This version will also contain the tutorial, first half of the story and several co-op missions.

XREAL Games expects to keep Zero Caliber in Early Access until early 2019, when the second half of the story will be released alongside additional weapons and separate co-op missions. To tempt players ahead of the Early Access launch the studio has confirmed a free demo will be released on 5th August, 2018. AS VRFocus learns more about Zero Caliber we’ll let you know.

Zero Caliber Looks Like A Polished Tactical VR Shooter With Co-Op

Zero Caliber Looks Like A Polished Tactical VR Shooter With Co-Op

There’s more than enough VR shooters to go around these days, but VR shooters that actually look and play like something you’d expect from a 2018 videogame are a little harder to come by. Zero Caliber looks to be one such game, though.

This new tactical shooter from A-Tech Cybernetic developer XREAL Games is set to arrive in Early Access on September 13th. As you can see from the trailer below, the game looks pretty solid from both a visuals and gameplay perspective.

Zero Caliber is set in a near-future United States in which drinkable water is in short supply and people fight for control of it. You play as a soldier trying to maintain order in an escalating war of mercenaries. The game’s set to offer a full campaign with co-op support in which you use highly customizable weapons to fight off enemies. You’ll need to master reloading techniques for each individual weapon, pull the pin on grenades, and physically duck behind cover.

It sounds very promising, then, let’s just hope it can deliver. The first release for Zero Caliber will include the first half of the game’s campaign complete with co-op support. As Early Access progresses, XREAL plans to add the second half of the story along with more weapons and additional missions designed specifically for co-op play. The developer plans to launch the full game in early 2019, though specific headsets haven’t been confirmed yet.
