A few weeks ago indie developer Cortopia Studios announced that’s its wizard dueling title Wands would be coming to Oculus Rift later this month, having previously released on Samsung Gear VR in 2016. In a surprise reveal today, the studio has confirmed that the Pico Goblin standalone headset now also features support.

The Pico Goblin – which VRFocus got its hands-on during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 – is a lightweight all-in-one head-mounted display (HMD) which is currently available to pre-order for $269.00 USD/£269.00 GBP.

Wands offers purely player verses player (PvP) combat, set in an alternate 19th Century London, combining magic with a steampunk Victorian era design. It was awarded Best VR Game 2016 in March 2017 at the International Mobile Gaming Awards at GDC in San Francisco.

“Wands is one of the few VR multiplayer games with an engaged player audience with high retention rates. We are committed to bringing Wands to all VR players, interested in competitive gaming, which is why we’re delighted to announce that the game is launching with the Pico Goblin,” said Ricky Helgesson, co-founder of Cortopia Studios in a statement. “Wands has been available on mobile VR platforms for almost a year now, so in terms of game mechanics and optimization work there wasn’t much to it. The porting consisted mostly of back-end work, enabling us to support yet another platform. Fortunately, the Pico development team has done a great job with their SDK, so the setup process was easy. Wands suits Pico Goblin very well, and developing for Pico was straightforward and enjoyable,”

“We love making VR products, but more importantly, we love to see people enjoying the amazing, fun and entertaining worlds that can be created using VR,” adds Paul Viglienzone, VP Business Development, Pico Interactive. “We are thrilled that Cortopia is bringing Wands to our platform. It’s a fantastic multiplayer game that we know our users will have a great time playing.”

The addition will aid Pico Goblin’s lineup of titles when it comes to launch. Earlier today VRFocus reported on WEARVR announcing a partnership with several Asian VR companies, one of which was Pico Interactive. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Pico and Cortopia Studios, reporting back with any further updates.
